(01 Apr 1920 - 25 Aug 2015)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

There is still more sad news this Thursday morning.    Belle Rothblatt Olshansky, mother of   Ken Olshansky ('60) of VA,   Norman Olshansky ('64) of FL, and Ed Olshansky ('69) of VA, passed away at home in Richmond on Tuesday, August 25, 2015.

May her memory be for a blessing always.

                          Belle Rothblatt Olshansky

RICHMOND - Belle Olshansky, 95, died peacefully at Beth Sholom Gardens Assisted Living in Richmond, Virginia on August 25th, 2015.

She was born to Isaac and Rebecca Rothblatt on April 1, 1920 in Montreal, Canada. Her parents emigrated from Warsaw, Poland then traveled to London, Montreal and finally settled on the lower east side of Manhattan, NY.

She married Charles Olshansky in 1939 in NYC and moved to Newport News, VA in 1940 where they raised their family.

For many years she served as a pre-school teacher at the Jewish Community Center in Newport News and was active in many Jewish and civic organizations, including Rodef Sholom Temple, Hadassah, ORT, Council of Jewish Women, League of Women Voters and the United Nations Association.

The family extends special thanks to the staff at Beth Shalom Gardens in Richmond, Bon Secours Hospice and to her special caregivers, Victoria Okurume and Linda Ruffin.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles Olshansky, and her four siblings, Barnie, Millie, Nathan and Annie.

Belle is survived by her three sons; Kenneth (Karen) Olshansky, Richmond, VA, Norman Olshansky (Beverly Austgen), Sarasota, FL, and Edward Olshansky, Newport News, VA; her four grandchildren, Lauren (Sandy) Cohen, Josh (Laurie) Olshansky, Jordan (Ariane) Olshansky and Jana (Peter) Braswell; her nine great-grandchildren, Camryn, Spencer, Scout, Keane, Lucas, Lily, Dexter, Max and Eloise.

Her warm smile, generosity of heart, sharp intellect and devotion to family and community will be sorely missed.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, August 28th at 11 am at Rodef Sholom Temple, 318 Whealton Rd, Hampton, VA 23666. Interment will follow in the Hebrew Cemetery, Hampton.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Rodef Sholom Temple or the United Jewish Community of the Virginia Peninsula. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

Ed, I was just thinking of you yesterday and the times we were together at RRMC & Riverside Hospice (as we volunteered together and shared a retreat cabin in Surry). I want to extend my deepest sympathy to you on the loss of your mother. May you find comfort in the knowledge that she is no longer suffering, and is at peace.
