08/24/19 - NNHS Newsletter - Barbara Ann

The minute I heard my first love story, I started looking for you,
not knowing how blind that was. Lovers don't finally meet
somewhere. They're in each other all along.”

Maulana Jalalu'ddin Rumi
(30 Sept 1207 - 17 Dec 1273)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

Summer's winding down, but there's still time for some good ol' summer dance music!

BONUS - Barbara Ann - The Beach Boys, 1965

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbara_Ann:

"Barbara Ann" is a song written by Fred Fassert and performed (as "Barbara Anne") by The Regents in 1961. The recording reached a peak position of #13 on the Billboard Hot 100 record chart.

The most famous cover version is by the American rock band The Beach Boys. The song was released as a single on December 20, 1965, with the B-side "Girl Don't Tell Me". The song peaked at #2 in the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 (#1 in Cash Box and Record World) and at #3 in the U.K. It also topped the charts in Germany, Switzerland and Norway. It was The Beach Boys' biggest hit in Italy, reaching #4. The song was also released on the 1965 album Beach Boys' Party!. Brian Wilson and Dean Torrence, who had previously recorded the song as one half of Jan and Dean, are featured on lead vocals. Dean is not credited on the album jacket but "Thanks, Dean" is said by Carl at the end of the track...[1]

  From Jimmy Dick ('65) of FL - 08/24/19, @ 7:00 AM:

SO, WE ASKED FOR IT AND NOW WE'VE GOT IT: SATURDAY MORNING! No, it's not an illusion and now that the kids are grown there's not too much confusion, just a day to do exactly what we want to do. For some it's the first day of football season although, I must confess, after attending games in the South in the mid-90's temperature-wise as a younger man, it's no longer my cup of tea. But there's fishing, swimming, hiking, antique shopping, taking a scenic drive with a stop for ice cream, going to a movie or out for a bite or just plain nothin' if we choose. So, get up and get moving, Saturday is here and let's enjoy it. After all, as we always know, it goes by pretty fast. Be blessed and have fun, everyone.

   Thank you, Jimmy!

From Bill Hobbs ('66) of Northern VA - 08/23/19, 8:52 PM - "Coffee":

Here is clear evidence that millennials have now entered the work force. Alas, the world will never be the same again...

Thanks, Janice, though I personally think that this type of "brilliance" is hardly limited to Millenials!

FINALLY:

From www.ajokeaday.com - 08/23/18:

Early one evening a gentleman scuttled out to his garage and pulled the lawn furniture out onto the driveway. Shortly after followed the lawnmower, a few gardening tools and a bicycle.

A curious neighbor wandered over and asked if he was going to have a garage sale.

"No," replied the gentleman, "my son just bought his first car and right now he's getting ready for a big date. He'll be taking the car out soon to pick up the girl."

"So what's with all the stuff?" asked the neighbor.

"Well, after years of moving tricycles, toys and sports equipment out of the way every time I came home from work, I wanted to make sure the driveway was ready for him."
