Miss Lackey was my biology teacher at George Wythe JHS. Although science was not my favorite subject, Miss Lackey made it very interesting, even dissecting a frog. (It was not as yucky as I thought it would be.) She was so sweet. My deep condolences.

I was a student of "Miss Lackey" at George Wythe Junior High School (9th grade), and I remember her just as vividly now as I did almost 50 years ago. She was a very special teacher who made every student feel special to her. I am so sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Mr. Allred,
I saw "Ms. Lackey's" picture in Sunday's paper and was so sadden by her passing. She taught me Biology at Hampton High School almost 50 years ago. She was hard but fair. At the time I thought it was rough, but life has taught me she did me a favor. My condolences to you for the lost of a fine person.

   From Fred Field ('45) of CA to Bill Smith and Charles Wicke - 08/25/08 - "Jackie Lackey Allred":

A familiar name, Jackie Lackey, popped up on the Daily Press Obits. yesterday.  Also included in the NNHS web site today where she was mentioned as being in NNHS Class of 194_.

Her age would indicate that she should have been in our class.  Yet I don't find her in the annual.  I have no pictoral memory of her - but that name is something never forgotten.

My guess is that she graduated from Hampton H.S. in about 1945 and that I may have been in proximity with her at Ivy Memorial Church.  Many of those attending Ivy Memorial lived in the E.C. Co. section of the Boulevard - East of Pear Avenue.

From Bill Smith to    Fred Field ('45) of CA - 08/26/08:

Hi Fred,

Thanks for the info.  I remember Jackie well.  She was my date for the Senior Prom

Bill,  Thanks for the info. on Jackie Lackey.

Later I remembered that I had a June 1946 Daily Press clipping showing the graduates.  Jackie was in that June 1946 class.

Shall We Gather at the River

Words and music by Rev. Robert Lowry (1826-1899)

 Shall we gather at the river,
Where bright angel feet have trod;
With its crystal tide forever
Flowing by the throne of God?

Chorus

Yes, we'll gather at the river,
The beautiful, the beautiful river;
Gather with the saints at the river
That flows by the throne of God.

On the margin of the river,
Washing up its silver spray,
We will walk and worship ever,
All the happy golden day.

Chorus

Ere we reach the shining river,
Lay we every burden down;
Grace our spirits will deliver,
And provide a robe and crown.

Chorus

Soon we'll reach the shining river,
Soon our pilgrimage will cease,
Soon our happy hearts will quiver
With the melody of peace.

Chorus
