Love Is Here and Now You're Gone

To find oneself jilted is a blow to one's pride. One must do one's best
to forget it and if one doesn't succeed, at least one must pretend to.”

- Molière
(15 Jan 1622 - 17 Feb 1673)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

This Golden Oldie keeps running through my mind.  This will either purge it or solidify it.

BONUS - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ncN1hGhAv8 - Love Is Here and Now You're Gone - The Supremes, Sunday, January 22, 1967

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Love_Is_Here_and_Now_You%27re_Gone:

"Love Is Here and Now You're Gone" is a 1967 number-one hit single recorded by The Supremes for the Motown label. The second single from the Supremes' album The Supremes Sing Holland–Dozier–Holland, it was written and produced by Motown's main production team Holland–Dozier–Holland.

The song, which depicts a relationship in the beginning stages of breakup ("You persuaded me to love you/And I did/But instead of tenderness/I found heartache instead"), features several spoken sections from lead singer Diana Ross, who delivers her dialogue in a dramatic, emotive voice. Matching the song's drama influences is an instrumental track, featuring a prominent harpsichord and strings, which recalls both a Hollywood film score and The Left Banke's recently popularized "Baroque rock."

Primarily recorded in Los Angeles, California, thousands of miles away from Motown's regular Hitsville U.S.A. recording studio, "Love Is Here, and Now You're Gone" was the #1 song on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 for one week, from March 4 to March 11, 1967, becoming the group's ninth number-one single. The single was also the group's sixth number one on the R&B charts.[1] The girl group performed the hit record on NBC's The Andy Williams Show on Sunday, January 22, 1967,[2] going to number one two weeks later. Lyricist Eddie Holland names "Love is Here" as his favorite Supremes song.

PRAYER REQUEST:

From Carol Anne Comer Cutler ('70) of VA - 08/21/10 - "Prayer List":

Please add my husband Larry to your prayer list.  He was hit by a car while he was on his motorcycle on August 9th.  He is lucky to be alive & has a long road to recovery. The worst of the damage is to his lower left leg.  He is not to put any weight on that leg for 3 months.  For a guy who was always on the go, being homebound is & will be very hard for him. Everyone's prayers would be appreciated.

YIKESARONI! Certainly, Carol! Best wishes to you both!

This is my daughter Laura's dog in a contest to be on the cover of a bag of dog food.

Vote every day for Grace. Thanks.

Oh, Laura is your daughter, Norris! Well, that makes it all the more important! When I tried to vote for Grace again today, I noticed the site was trying to pull a switcheroo on me. It tried to persuade me to vote for the wrong Grace!  OH, NO!

That's why I've included the link to all the candidates named Grace, along with the image of The Real Grace, lest there be any confusion. As y'all can see, she's a Weimaraner from Richmond.

I do not have his DOB; he was born in Newport News, VA. I am giving Mark a copy of this message so you can communicate with this TYPHOON.

  Carol,

Please help me out here...

The picture of the JV Flag Twirlers in the 1961 Anchor in your newsletter of August 20 shows 7 twirlers but only 6 names are listed.

Who was left out?  I admit I don't recognize all the twirlers...but somebody out there might be able to help with the identification.

1961 Anchor, p. 70

Thanks.

Shirley Matthews ('66)

ARGHH!!! This is what happens when you have a legally blind Webmistress!

The missing name belongs to the ever lovely Vicki Hankins ('63), now Vicki Hankins Rudy of GA.

The correct caption should read: Mary Lou Knowles ('63), head; Skipper Cooper ('64); Rochelle Spooner ('63); Becky Goolsby ('64); Norma Helmick ('63); Sharon Lamberth ('63); and Vicki Hankins ('63).

Skipper later transferred to another school.

Love Is Here and Now You're Gone
Written by Brian Holland (b. 15 Feb 1941), Lamont Dozier (b. 16 June 1941),
and
Edward Holland, Jr. (b. 30 Oct 1939)

Recorded by The Supremes, 1967

Love is here and
Oh, my darling, now you're gone
Love is here and
Oh, my darling, now, now you're gone

You persuaded me to love you
And I did
But instead of tenderness
I found heartache instead
Into your arms I fell
So unaware of the loneliness
That was waiting there

You closed the door to your heart
And you turned the key, locked your love away from me

Love is here and
Oh, my darling, now you're gone

You made me love you
And oh, my darling, now you're gone
You said loving you
Would make life beautiful
With each passing day
But as soon as love
Came into my heart
You turned and you walked, just walked away

You stripped me of my dreams
You gave me faith, then took my hope
Look at me now

Look at me
See what loving you has done to me
Look at my face
See how cryin' has left it's trace

After you made me all your own
Then you left me all alone
You made your words sound so sweet
Knowing that your love I couldn't keep

My heart cries out for your touch
But you're not there
And the lonely cry fades in the air

Love is here and
Oh, my darling, now you're gone
Love is here and
Oh, my darling, now you're gone

You made me love you
Oh, my darling
Now you're gone
You made me love you
Oh, my darling
Now you're gone
