Total Eclipse of the Heart

“In the deep sky where there had been a sun, we saw a ring of white silver; a smoking ring,
and all the smokes were silver, too; gauzy, fuming, curling, unbelievable. And who had ever seen the sky this color!
Not in the earliest morning or at twilight, never before had we seen or dreamed this strange immortal blue
in which a few large stars now sparkled as though for the first time in creation.

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

Of the many appropriate music choices for today, this hit from 1983 is the first that popped into my mind.

From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Total_Eclipse_of_the_Heart

"Total Eclipse of the Heart" is a song recorded by Welsh singer Bonnie Tyler. It was written and produced by Jim Steinman, and released on Tyler's fifth studio album, Faster Than the Speed of Night (1983). The song was released as a single by Columbia Records on 11 February 1983 in the United Kingdom and on 31 May 1983 in the United States.

The song became Tyler's biggest career hit, topping the UK Singles Chart, and becoming the fifth-best-selling single in 1983 in the United Kingdom. In the United States, the single also topped the charts, and Billboard's number-six song of the year for 1983.

Worldwide, the single has sales in excess of 6 million copies[1] and was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for sales of over 1 million copies after its release, updated to Platinum in 2001 when the certification threshold changed.[2] In 2015, the song was voted by the British public as the nation's third favourite 1980s number one in a poll for ITV.[3]

From My Friend, Susan, of NC - 08/19/15:

“When we are impatient, we are neither reverential nor reflective because we are too self-centered. Whereas faith and patience are companions, so are selfishness and impatience. It is so easy to be confrontive without being informative; so easy to be indignant without being intelligent; so easy to be impulsive without being insightful. It is so easy to command others when we are not in control of ourselves. ...Clearly, without patience we will learn less in life. We will see less; we will feel less; we will hear less. Ironically, 'rush' and 'more' usually mean 'less.' ”

One of the most "worth it" trips to see a natural phenomenon that I've ever made — in Scio, Oregon.

Thank you, Jim and Jody! The image you captured of the eclipse is breathtaking - so I "captured" it myself as the title image for today's Special Edition!

Say, didn't I catch you two on an episode of Doctor Who once?

Total Eclipse of the Heart

Written by Jim Steinman (b. 01 Nov 1947)

Recorded by Bonnie Tyler (b. 08 June 1951), 1983

Turnaround, every now and then I get a little bit lonely
And you're never coming round
Turnaround, every now and then I get a little bit tired
Of listening to the sound of my tears
Turnaround, every now and then I get a little bit nervous
That the best of all the years have gone by
Turnaround, every now and then I get a little bit terrified
And then I see the look in your eyes
Turnaround bright eyes, but every now and then I fall apart
Turnaround bright eyes, every now and then I fall apart

And I need you now tonight
And I need you more than ever
And if you only hold me tight
We'll be holding on forever
And we'll only be making it right
'Cause we'll never be wrong together
We can take it to the end of the line
Your love…
