08/19/18 - NNHS Newsletter - Today

“One of the most tragic things I know about human nature is that
all of us tend to put off living. We are all dreaming of some magical
rose garden over the horizon instead of enjoying the roses
that are blooming outside our windows today.”

- Dale Carnegie
(24 Nov 1888 - 01 Nov 1955)

“If we do the best we can, the Lord will bless us according to our deeds and the desires of our hearts.”

(b. 09 Sept 1924)

    Thanks so much, Susan!

From Joan Lauterbach Krause ('60) of VA - 08/19/18:

  Thank you, Joan!

From Doug Nelson ('64) of VA - 08/13/18 (but only just discovered on 08/19/18) - "Re: Jerry Schweida - Class of 1962":

My brother Lloyd ('61 - of VA) emailed me of Jerry's death yesterday. He was a friend of Lloyd's and I always liked him. I used to play sandlot football with Lloyd and Jerry before we were in high school. I was a underweight, scrawny little kid. But I liked to play football. I would try with all my might to tackle Jerry. And, as I remember, I actually did rarely. Perhaps he was being kind. I remember being sent through the air trying to tackle him. I was lucky he didn't kill me.

The last time I saw Jerry was at the 1996 NNHS reunion event in Saunders Stadium. I went to shake his hand. But I am not sure he knew who I was.

Doug Nelson

Thank you so much for this remembrance, Doug! I'm sorry I missed it before, but it's now been added to Jerry's Memorial Newsletter.

From My Daughter-in-Law, Laura Adams Harty (Cardston HS, Alberta - '95) of NC - 08/17/18 - "   RE: My #2 Son, Brent Harty (Hillsboro HS, IL - Most Popular Boy in the Class of 1990) of NC":

   Thank you, Laura!  Congratulations, Brent!

From Mark Hutcherson ('66) of VA- 08/18/18:

   Thanks, Mark!

There are so many uses for this pattern, from decorating kids apparel to a zipper pull on your purse. Today

Written by Randy Sparks (b. 29 July 1933)

Recorded by New Christy Minstrels, 1964

Today, while the blossoms still cling to the vine
I'll taste your strawberries, I'll drink your sweet wine
A million tomorrows shall all pass away
Ere I forget all the joy that is mine, today

I'll be a dandy, and I'll be a rover
You'll know who I am by the songs that I sing
I'll feast at your table, I'll sleep in your clover
Who cares what the morrow shall bring

Today, while the blossoms still cling to the vine
I'll taste your strawberries, I'll drink your sweet wine
A million tomorrows shall all pass away
Ere I forget all the joy that is mine, today

I can't be contented with yesterdays glory
I can't live on promises winter to spring
Today is my moment, now is my story
I'll laugh and I'll cry and I'll sing

Today, while the blossoms still cling to the vine
I'll taste your strawberries, I'll drink your sweet wine
A million tomorrows shall all pass away
Ere I forget all the joy that is mine, today

Today, while the blossoms still cling to the vine
I'll taste your strawberries, I'll drink your sweet wine
A million tomorrows shall all pass away
Ere I forget all the joy that is mine, today
