Helen Joyce Pittman Kea
(15 Mar 1933 - 14 Aug 2016)

Newport News High School Class of 1950

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

   There is still more sad news today.  Helen Pittman Kea, Class of 1950, sister of Guy Pittman, and of the late Rosemary Pittman Schoneman, passed away in Santa Maria, California on Sunday, August 14, 2016 at the age of 83.

   She was the aunt of Bob Cook ('67) of VA.

From Bob Cook ('67) of VA - 08/18/16, 3:07 PM - "Helen Joyce Pittman":

My aunt, Helen Joyce (Pittman) Kea, died on Sunday, 8/14/16. She suffered a long illness and died with her family close by. They live in Santa Maria, California.
She graduated from NNHS. Her family wants to include this in her obituary, but we don't know which year she graduated.
If anyone can provide this information, please send it to:
rcook185@cox.net and gregorys5@aol.com

    Oh, Bob, I'm so sorry to hear this! You and your family have my deepest sympathies.

   I have a copy of the 1950 Anchor (but not the 1949 or 1951 editions). Nevertheless, I was unable to locate Helen's senior portrait.

From the Santa Maria Times (Solving, CA) - 08/18/16:

                  Helen Joyce Pittman Kea

    NEWPORT NEWS - Helen Joyce Pittman Kea was born on March 15th, 1933. She went to join our father, the love of her life, on August 14, 2016. She will be greatly missed by many, but we celebrate her long, awesome life.

Mom was born and raised in Newport News, VA, graduating high school in 1950.

She then married Irby James Kea on October 4, 1952. Together they raised four children. After Jim's passing in March of 1989, mom never dated, saying once you have had the best, why bother. She also said she had plenty of kids, grandkids and great-grandkids to keep her busy.

Helen is survived by four children, Leanne (Curtis) Gregory, Brian Kea, Jeanna (Joseph) Wiley, and David Kea. Also grandchildren, Heather (Adrian) Zamora, Joshua Honey (RaeLeen Alford), and Curtis J Gregory (Britney Edens), along with 7 great-grandchildren, and brother, Guy (Beth) Pittman, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and their children.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Merritt Pittman, along with her sister, Rosemary Schoneman.

  A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at 1:00 pm at Crestwood Christian Fellowship, 1265 W McCoy with Pastor Dennis Mogavero officiating. A reception will be held immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity that has impacted your life and/or those of your loved ones.

Be Thou My Vision

Irish Hymn, c. 8th century

Translated by Mary Elizabeth Byrne (02 July 1880 - 19 Jan 1931), 1905

Versified by Eleanor Henrietta Hull (15 Jan 1860 - 13 Jan 1935), 1912

Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art.
Thou my best Thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.

Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.

Be Thou my battle Shield, Sword for the fight;
Be Thou my Dignity, Thou my Delight;
Thou my soulís Shelter, Thou my high Tower:
Raise Thou me heavenward, O Power of my power.

Riches I heed not, nor manís empty praise,
Thou mine Inheritance, now and always:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art.

High King of Heaven, my victory won,
May I reach Heavenís joys, O bright Heavenís Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.
