08/19/10 - NNHS Newsletter - Today

“One of the most tragic things I know about human nature is that
all of us tend to put off living. We are all dreaming of some magical
rose garden over the horizon instead of enjoying the roses
that are blooming outside our windows today.”

- Dale Carnegie
(24 Nov 1888 - 01 Nov 1955)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

REUNION ALERTS:

From Dave Arnold ('65) of VA - 08/06/10 - "Update on locations - Class of 1965's 45-Year Reunion - Friday and Saturday, October 15 and 16, 2010 - OPEN TO ALL CLASSES!":

Carol,

Please post this updated announcement when you have a moment.

Thanks,

Dave
captarnold@vprj.net

Friday evening we’ll meet at the home of    Lynn Walker Brothers ’65 and her husband Barry (York HS - '65).  They have graciously extended an offer to open their home for the event.  Light hors d’oeuvres will be served, and we would request a $5.00 donation to assist in covering the expenses for that evening if you attend.  The change in location was decided when members of the reunion committee thought the original location might not be as suitable for conversation as originally planned.  The Brothers residence is located at 304 Dogwood Drive, Newport News.  The telephone number is 757-595-4116.  We’ll post a map providing directions.

From Norris Perry (Warwick HS - '59) - 08/05/10 - "Vote for Grace (REPEATED)":

This is my daughter Laura's dog in a contest to be on the cover of a bag of dog food.

Vote every day for Grace. Thanks.

Oh, Laura is your daughter, Norris! Well, that makes it all the more important! When I tried to vote for Grace again today, I noticed the site was trying to pull a switcheroo on me. It tried to persuade me to vote for the wrong Grace!  OH, NO!

That's why I've included the link to all the candidates named Grace, along with the image of The Real Grace, lest there be any confusion. As y'all can see, she's a Weimaraner from Richmond.

http://www.adogslife.net/photo_gallery.php?pg=&limit=40&sort=tnid&type=tnap&field=dog_name&keyword=grace#14296

Vote early, and vote often - or at least cast your allotted daily vote!

It seems this photograph has sparked a bit of conversation because it was not clearly labeled.

Sometimes I forget what a diverse group we are - or more probably, I tend to think that if I know something, then certainly it must be patently obvious to all of y'all - and this is one that I somehow recall with crystal clarity.

I apologize for the confusion. Here's the proper caption:

Tuesday, August 10, 2010 - The Lions
For my good friend, Carol - and all the NNHS alum, I did a shoot on the 10th and here are a couple of frames that everyone will recognize.

So few things are the same as we remember, but thankfully these have stood the test of time.

I hope you will enjoy them. Perhaps they will evoke a pleasant memory or two.

Carol, I have a few more images that I would like to share, but stop me when I first begin to bore you.

Tuesday, August 10, 2010 - The Lions

OHHH, John Darlin', I'm now officially homesick (again)! I couldn't bring myself to resize or compress your breathtaking images. The B & W peek-a-boo lions shot I find particularly mesmerizing; I just keep gawking at it.

Thank you so much, Sweetie!
I'll let you know if I begin to get bored - but don't hold your breath!

FINALLY:

Repairs

When a guy's printing on his printer began to grow faint, he called a local repair shop where a friendly man informed him that the printer probably needed only to be cleaned.

Because the store charged $50 for such cleanings, he told him he might be better off reading the printer's manual and trying the job himself.

Pleasantly surprised by his candor, he asked, "Does your boss know that you discourage business?"

"Actually, it's my boss's idea," the employee replied sheepishly. "We usually make more money on repairs if we let people try to fix things themselves first."

Today

Words and Music by Randy Sparks (b. 29 July 1933)

(New Christy Minstrels, 1964)

Today, while the blossoms still cling to the vine
I'll taste your strawberries, I'll drink your sweet wine
A million tomorrows shall all pass away
Ere I forget all the joy that is mine, today

I'll be a dandy, and I'll be a rover
You'll know who I am by the songs that I sing
I'll feast at your table, I'll sleep in your clover
Who cares what the morrow shall bring

Today, while the blossoms still cling to the vine
I'll taste your strawberries, I'll drink your sweet wine
A million tomorrows shall all pass away
Ere I forget all the joy that is mine, today

I can't be contented with yesterdays glory
I can't live on promises winter to spring
Today is my moment, now is my story
I'll laugh and I'll cry and I'll sing

Today, while the blossoms still cling to the vine
I'll taste your strawberries, I'll drink your sweet wine
A million tomorrows shall all pass away
Ere I forget all the joy that is mine, today

Today, while the blossoms still cling to the vine
I'll taste your strawberries, I'll drink your sweet wine
A million tomorrows shall all pass away
Ere I forget all the joy that is mine, today
