Dear Friends and Schoolmates,
I remember sitting by our Magnavox radio and singing along with Gogi to this when I was a little girl. Was I really only nine years old??
BONUS - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4SaeWh3h8Fg - The Wayward Wind - Gogi Grant, 1956
From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wayward_Wind:
"The Wayward Wind" is a country song written by Stan Lebowsky and Herb Newman.
In 1956 versions were recorded by Gogi Grant, Tex Ritter, and Jimmy Young, of which Grant's was the biggest seller in the United States and Ritter's in the United Kingdom. The song reached #1 on the Cash Box chart, which combined all recorded versions, but must have got most of that popularity from the Gogi Grant version, which reached #1 on the Billboard chart on its own. The song is one of only two songs that were major hits for Grant, the other being "Suddenly There's a Valley".
In 1961 Gogi Grant's recording was reissued and reached Billboard #50 and Cash Box #78. That same year, Patsy Cline made a recording, which did not chart.
In 1963 a new recording was made by Frank Ifield, which reached #1 on the UK charts.
The song made the Billboard country chart in the 1980s in a version by Sylvia, with accompaniment by James Galway.

This is crazy crazy !!
Never waste cut roses. Did you know that you can grow roses from cuttings? Simply cut healthy stems, place them in large potatoes, and them bury them 3-4 inches deep in a healthy soil mixture of peat moss and top soil. The potatoes keep the stems moist and help develop the root systems. It's a perfectly simple way to multiply your rose garden without spending lots of $$$.
WHAT?!?
I always heard that this was impossible!
Thanks so much, Evelyn!

From My Friend, Alice, of NV - 08/17/13 - "Corn on the Cob":

How did I NOT know this?
Never boil corn again! Want to know the easiest way to cook corn on the cob? Throw it in the oven at 350° for 25-30 minutes. That’s it. Leave the husk on, it will trap in the moisture, leaving you with juicy, tender corn. The husk and silk will peel away easily once it’s cooked. Cut off the large end and it slides right out with no silk.
WOWZERS!
I'd heard this before but forgotten it! Thank you, Alice!

From www.ajokeaday.com - 08/17/13:
General Amalgamated Industries, feeling it was time for a shakeup, hired a new CEO. The new boss was determined to rid the company of all slackers. On a tour of the facilities, the CEO noticed a guy leaning against a wall. The room was full of workers and he wanted to let them know that he meant business. He asked the guy, "How much money do you make a week?" A little surprised, the young man looked at him and said, "I make $400 a week. Why?" The CEO
said, "Wait right here."

Written by Stanley Lebowsky (26 Nov 1926 – 19 Oct 1986) and Herb Newman
Recorded by
Gogi Grant
(born Myrtle Audrey Arinsberg, 20 Sept 1924),
1956
The wayward wind is a restless wind
A restless wind that yearns to wander
And he was born the next of kin
The next of kin to the wayward wind
In a lonely shack by a railroad track
He spent his younger days
And I guess the sound of the outward-bound
Made him a slave to his wand'rin ways
And the wayward wind is a restless wind
A restless wind that yearns to wander
And he was born the next of kin
The next of kin to the wayward wind
Oh, I met him there in a border town
He vowed we'd never part
Though he tried his best to settle down
I'm now alone with a broken heart
And the wayward wind is a restless wind
A restless wind that yearns to wander
And he was born the next of kin
The next of kin to the wayward wind
The next of kin to the wayward wind
