08/17/04 - NNHS Newsletter - Barbara's Husband AND Beverly's Mother

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

There is even more sad news today.

From Dee Hodges Bartram ('66) of VA - 08/16/04:

Carol,

Barbara Doyle Spangler lost her husband, Lloyd, last week.  Barbara graduated in 1966.

Lloyd W. Spangler Jr.

POQUOSON - Lloyd W. Spangler Jr. departed this life on Aug. 14, 2004. He was
affiliated with the NASA Langley Research Center for 35 years and was a
member of Liberty Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father,
Lloyd W. Spangler Sr., and his brother, Charles W. Spangler. Survivors
include his loving and devoted wife, Barbara; his much loved only son,
Christopher; his mother, Gladys L. Spangler; two sisters, Jeanette Hill and
Alice Watts; and his brother, David Spangler. He was blessed with a large
family and the support of many close friends. The family will receive
friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 16, at Peninsula Funeral Home. A
funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17, at Liberty
Baptist Church by the Rev. Joe Hunt with burial to follow at Peninsula
Memorial Park.

Also, Beverly Miller Cowell ('66) of TN has asked for our prayers concerning her mother.
Here is her message:

I'd like to ask all our NNHS friends to say an extra prayer for my mother,
who has been diagnosed with terminal cancer and is currently in Riverside
Hospital.  Fortunately, at the age of 87, she is able to say she has never
been sick, on any long term medication or been in the hospital since she had
me, 55 years ago.  I've been up there with her and returned to Nashville
this weekend for a quick "catch up" at my office.  My thanks to everyone who
would say a little prayer that she not suffer too long.

Our deepest sympathies are extended to Barbara and her family.  We'll keep Beverly and her mother
in our prayers.  Thanks, Dee, for sharing this with us.

Back in January,  Frances Goodson Wang ('65) of MD asked us to create a page where people could
ask for the prayers of the group.  After a few false starts, we finally posted it on February 4:

http://www.nnhs65.00freehost.com/requests-prayers.html

Since that time, many of you have shared matters of deep concern and extreme tragedy with me, and
have kept me on my knees.  Strangely, they all seemed to be of a confidential nature, and I never felt
at liberty to share them with the group, which is really quite a shame, as I happen to know our ranks
contain some mighty prayer warriors.  If I were in similar circumstances, I would certainly want some
of your prayers being offered in my behalf.

But this one I feel authorized to add now, so I will.

There's a great deal of happy news and fun updates.  I'll save them for tomorrow.

   Y'all take care now.

                             Love to all, Carol
