08/16/19 - NNHS Newsletter - For Your Love

Love has no desire but to fulfill itself. To melt and be
like a running brook that sings its melody to the night.
To wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks
for another day of loving.

Khalil Gibran
(06 Jan 1883 - 10 Apr 1931)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

Here's another great old love song, this one from 1958 - YEA!

BONUS #1 - For Your Love - Ed Townsend

BONUS #2 - For Your Love - Johnny Mathis

BONUS #3 - For Your Love - The Lettermen

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ed_Townsend:

Ed Townsend - Edward Benjamin Townsend - (April 16, 1929 - August 13, 2003) was an African American attorney, songwriter, and producer. He was best known for performing his composition, "For Your Love," a rhythm and blues doo wop classic, and as the co-writer of "Let's Get It On" with Marvin Gaye.[1]

Although he was born in Fayetteville, Tennessee, his family soon moved to Memphis where his father was called to pastor an African Methodist Episcopal church.

The year Townsend graduated from high school, he was elected to the International American Methodist Episcopal Youth Council (IAMEYC). The honor let him travel worldwide before enrolling in college the next year at Arkansas State College.

After graduating, he taught for a year. Although he never formally practiced law, he frequently used his law training to assist other entertainers in negotiating their recording and performance contracts.

In 1951, Townsend joined the United States Marine Corps and served in Korea. After his discharge, he recorded a number of singles for various labels, none of which made the charts. Ironically, in 1958 he took his ballad, "For Your Love" to Capitol Records, hoping to interest Nat King Cole, but, impressed with his voice, Capitol signed him to record it himself.

Dick Clark had just started American Bandstand on television and invited Townsend to sing the very first month the show aired. He was an overnight success and the song shot up the charts, reaching #13 on the US pop chart.....

BONUS FOOLISH CROCHET PATTERN:

Snake in Camouflage - "My sssimple ssssnake, aka Therapy Crochet for souls demoralised by complicated patterns that need repeated frogging, has reached completion! I am rather pleased with him. He was very simple to crochet, so long as one made sure one always ended up with 35 stitches at the end of each round after the initial increases, and he didn't require too much other brain power - ssimple sstripes, ssimple sstitches, ssimple sstuffing and ssimple asssembly! Here he iss!" - "...More foolish I grow..."

BONUS KNITTING FOOL PATTERNS:

KnittingFool - "You are in the right place. Traditionally, basic knitting information has been passed down from person to person for thousands of years. For Your Love

 Written and recorded by Ed Townsend (16 Apr 1929 - 13 Aug 2003), 1958

For your love, oh, I would do anything
I would do anything, fo-o-or your love

For your kiss (ahh, ahh, ahh, ahh), oh, I would go anywhere (ahh, ahh, ahh, ahh)
I would go (ahh, ahh, ahh, ahh), anywhere, fo-o-r your kiss

More foolish I grow
With each heart beat
But we all get foolish
That's why I repeat

For your love (ahh, ahh, ahh, ahh), oh, I would do anything (ahh, ahh, ahh, ahh)
I would do anything, fo-o-or your kiss

I would do anything, fo-o-or your love (anything, anything, anything)
Fo-o-or your love
(ahh, ahh, ahh, ahh, ahh, ooh)
