08/14/17 - NNHS Newsletter - Green Leaves of Summer
“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time
to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; A time to weep,
and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; ..... A time to love, and a time
to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.”

From June Veneris Collie (Hampton HS - '62) of VA - 08/13/17 - "Suggested song":

Hello Carol,

My 1962 HHS class is celebrating our 55th reunion on August 26th. I found the song “Yesterday Once More” by the Carpenters https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YTaWayUE5XA is very fitting for that time. Could you feature that song in your 26th newsletter? It is hard to believe 55 years have gone by – and I remember some of it just like yesterday!

I enjoy your newsletter very much and Thank You for your time and effort!

June Veneris Collie

Oh, certainly, June! I'd be delighted! Great choice! I've already put it in the line-up. Thanks so much - and y'all have fun!

The Green Leaves of Summer

- Theme from the film The Alamo (1960)

Written by
Paul Francis Webster (20 Dec 1907 – 18 Mar 1984) and Dimitri Tiomkin (10 May 1894 – 11 Nov 1979)

Recorded by
The Brothers Four

A time to be reapin', a time to be sowin'.
The green leaves of Summer are callin' me home.
'Twas so good to be young then, in a season of plenty,
When the catfish were jumpin' as high as the sky.

A time just for plantin', a time just for ploughin'.
A time to be courtin' a girl of your own.
'Twas so good to be young then, to be close to the earth,
And to stand by your wife at the moment of birth.

A time to be reapin', a time to be sowin'.
The green leaves of Summer are callin' me home.
'Twas so good to be young then, with the sweet smell of apples,
And the owl in the pine tree a-winkin' his eye.

A time just for plantin', a time just for ploughin'.
A time just for livin', a place for to die.
'Twas so good to be young then, to be close to the earth,
Now the green leaves of Summer are callin' me home.

'Twas so good to be young then, to be close to the earth,
Now the green leaves of Summer are callin' me home.
