08/11/19 - NNHS Newsletter - Truly Madly Deeply

“At this point in my life I'd like to live
as if only love mattered.”

- Tracy Chapman
(b. 30 Mar 1964)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,
This song originally came to me while I was listening to my radio in my sleep. I thought we could enjoy it together again.

BONUS - Truly Madly Deeply - Savage Garden

"Truly Madly Deeply" is a song by Australian pop band Savage Garden, released as a single in March 1997. Written by band-mates Darren Hayes and Daniel Jones, the song is a reworking of a song called "Magical Kisses" that the pair wrote together long before recording began on their debut album. "Truly Madly Deeply" was released as the third single from their self-titled debut album. In 1998, it became the main theme from the soundtrack of the movie Music from Another Room, starring Jude Law and Gretchen Mol.[2]

There are two distinct versions of the song. The first was made available on the Australian version of the group's album, whereas the second version appears on the release of the album in Europe and America. This version was composed in 1996, and features a drum-machine track instead of the more acoustic-sounding music featured on the Australian version. The European version also features on the group's greatest hits compilation, Truly Madly Completely...

The song was a major and sustained success in the U.S. beginning in 1997. Entering the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart at #26 on 6 December 1997,[4] it peaked at #1 for two weeks in January 1998 and lingered for a full year on the chart.[4] The song spent half a year in the top ten alone. It hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Airplay chart and #2 on the Hot Adult Top 40 Tracks chart. It also went Top 10 on the Rhythmic Top 40 chart. On the Billboard Top 40 Mainstream chart the song hit number one for one week on 31 January before dropping to number two as Celine Dion assumed the top spot with the theme to the hit film Titanic, "My Heart Will Go On". Savage Garden's single held at #2 for ten weeks, before returning to the number one spot again the week of 18 April.[5]

The song eventually set a record for the most weeks of any single in history on the U.S. Hot Adult Contemporary chart. In 1998 the song logged eleven weeks at number one on this chart, but its full chart span lasted 123 weeks...

“Be we reminded that a perfect body is not required to achieve one’s divine destiny. In fact, some of the sweetest spirits are housed in frail or imperfect bodies. Great spiritual strength is often developed by people with physical challenges, precisely because they are so challenged.”

From the Head Flagtwirler of 1965, Janice McCain Rose of VA - 08/08/19, 12:57 PM - "Millenials have now entered the workforce...." (#1 in a series of 16):

Here is clear evidence that millennials have now entered the work force. Alas, the world will never be the same again...

Thanks, Janice, though I personally think that this type of "brilliance" is hardly limited to Millenials!

Mountain Mist Afghan - "Using double crochet and the cluster stitch you can make this beautiful free crochet afghan. Five different colors are used for a nice contrasting look. This Mountain Mist Afghan will really remind you of the mountains."  - "...I want to stand with you on a mountain..."

Aspen Mountain Knit Bag - "Trying out new stitches and techniques with knit and crochet is so much fun. I love finding simple stitch patterns that are pretty, but also don’t make my brain hurt too much! This bag is made with the double seed stitch pattern which looks lovely and is quite simple. There are no strange needle maneuvers (ha ha!) and you will just make a variety of knit and purl stitches. It’s made by simply knitting a large rectangle, folding it in half, seaming the sides and attaching some pretty handles. Voila! A perfect way to try a new stitch and make something useful at the same time..." - "...I want to stand with you on a mountain..."

Truly Madly Deeply

Written by Darren Hayes (b. 08 May 1972) and Daniel Jones (b. 22 July 1973)

Recorded by Savage Garden, 1997

I'll be your dream
I'll be your wish
I'll be your fantasy.
I'll be your hope
I'll be your love
Be everything that you need.
I love you more with every breath
Truly madly deeply do..
I will be strong I will be faithful
'Cause I'm counting on a new beginning.
A reason for living.
A deeper meaning.

I want to stand with you on a mountain.
I want to bathe with you in the sea.
I want to lay like this forever.
Until the sky falls down on me...

And when the stars are shining brightly
In the velvet sky,
I'll make a wish
Send it to heaven
Then make you want to cry..
The tears of joy
For all the pleasure and the certainty.
That we're surrounded
By the comfort and protection of..
The highest power.
In lonely hours.
The tears devour you..
I want to stand with you on a mountain,
I want to bathe with you in the sea.
I want to lay like this forever,
Until the sky falls down on me...

Oh can't you see it baby?
You don't have to close your eyes
'Cause it's standing right before you.
All that you need will surely come...

I'll be your dream
I'll be your wish
I'll be your fantasy.
I'll be your hope
I'll be your love
Be everything that you need.
I'll love you more with every breath
Truly madly deeply do...
