August October

“If the sight of the blue skies fills you with joy, if a blade of grass springing up
in the fields has power to move you, if the simple things in nature
have a message you understand, Rejoice, for your soul is alive.”

- Eleonora Duse
(1858-1924)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

Even though I could find no midi file for it, this seemed to be as good a choice as any for today's theme.

BONUS - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQxt0epZFOg - August October - Robin Gibb, 1970

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/August_October:

"August October" is a song written and performed by English singer-songwriter Robin Gibb, the third and the last song released from the album Robin's Reign. It reached #45 in the UK, #12 in Germany and #11 in New Zealand.

The Italian LP Best of Bee Gees, Volume 2 has a mono mix of this song with a fadeout ending (at 2:25), but then it comes to a full ending seconds later. If this was to be a true mono mix, it was hardly used, as most Polydor divisions issued stereo singles, and Atco's mono single appears to be a reduction from stereo. Additionally, for the second time Gibb recorded an Italian alternate vocal.[1]

Hi, Carol:
What a pleasant surprise to find your Newsletter today. Glad you are back and running again. Nice to have you back, for you sure have been missed.

The obituary for Bette Lee "Bitsy" Heath, NNHS 1957, of VA did not mention one important "Small World" fact.
She worked as a Nurse at the Kecoughtan Veterans Administration Hospital, after she completed nursing training and most likely knew your late father
-       Robert Buckley (John Marshall HS - '25) (19 Oct 1907 - 25 Apr 1960) - while working at that facility.

TYPHOON Regards,
Joe Madagan ('57) of FL

WOWZERS! I had never considered such a possibility! Thanks so much, Sweet Adonis - you made my day with that happy thought!

We’ve all lost loved ones, some more recent than others.  I sure feel better watching and listening to this one.  I hope it does the same for you.

How Great Thou Art

I've seen a lot of things in my 20 plus years on the internet, and I'd have to say, this clip is one of the most amazing and imaginative talents on the web!
For those who are not so geeky, let me explain that this singer had to record each of the tracks one at a time, and had to get the timing just perfect in order for it to work. LOTS of technology went into this. And the song isn't bad, either. (That's an understatement!)
So, turn up your volume, maximize your screen, click on the link below, then sit back and enjoy!

WOWZERONI! Thanks so much, Dearest Judy!

FINALLY:

From http://www.ajokeaday.com - 08/07/12:

A couple is in bed sleeping when there's a rat-a-tat-tat on the door.

The husband rolls over and looks at the clock, and it's half past 3 in the morning.

"I’m not getting out of bed at this time," he thinks, and rolls over. Then, a louder knock follows. So he drags himself out of bed, goes downstairs, opens the door, and there's a man standing there. It didn't take the homeowner long to realize the man was drunk.

"Hi there," slurs the stranger, "Can you give me a push?"

"No, get lost. It's half past three and I was in bed," says the man as he slams the door. He goes back up to bed and tell his wife what happened and she says,

"That wasn't very nice of you. Remember that night we broke down in the pouring rain on the way to pick the kids up from the baby-sitter and you had to knock on that man's house to get us started again? What would have happened if he'd told us to get lost?"

"But the guy was drunk," says the husband.

"It doesn't matter," says the wife. ”He needs our help and it would be the Christian thing to help him."

So the husband gets out of bed again, gets dressed, and goes downstairs.

He opens the door, and not being able to see the stranger anywhere,

He shouts, "Hey, do you still want a push?"

And he hears a voice cry out, "Yeah, please."

So, still being unable to see the stranger he shouts, "Where are you?"

The drunk replies, "Over here, on the swing."

August October

Written and recorded by Robin Gibb, 1970
(22 Dec 1949 – 20 May 2012)

Autumn and Friday the winds blew
July September I knew you.
Now as I sit on that sand - hill
I sing our song to the sea.

August October the grass grew
The sky was blue and I wanted you.
Now as I look out my window
I see the world carry on.

August October
mid April November May
Beckoning hands made you fly
I cried it's curtains to day.
