Once There Were Greenfields
“Come back to me in dreams; that I may give
Pulse for pulse, breath for breath:
Speak low, lean low,
As long ago, my love, how long ago.”
(05 Dec 1830 - 29 Dec 1894)
Dear Friends and Schoolmates,
If I were one of those
people who cried at hearing sad old songs, this one would probably take me
down. Oh, wait. I am one of those people.....
Greenfields - The
Brothers Four ("Sing Along with Mitch")
|The Brothers Four are an
folk singing group, founded in 1957 in
Seattle, Washington, known for their 1960 hit song "Greenfields".
Bob Flick, John Paine, Mike Kirkland, and Dick Foley met at the
University of Washington, where they were members of the
Phi Gamma Delta
fraternity in 1956 (hence the "Brothers" appellation). Their first
professional performances were the result of a prank played on them in
1958 by a rival fraternity, who had arranged for someone to call them,
pretend to be from Seattle's Colony Club, and invite them to come down
to audition for a gig. Even though they were not expected at the club,
they were allowed to sing a few songs, and were subsequently hired.
Flick recalls them being paid "mostly in beer..."

Friend, Susan, of NC - 08/06/15:
|“We know that there
are times when we experience heartbreaking sorrow, when we will grieve,
and when we may be tested to our limits. However, such difficulties
allow us to change for the better, to rebuild our lives in the way our
Heavenly Father teaches us, and to become something different from what
we were—better than we were, more understanding than we were, more
empathetic than we were, with stronger testimonies than we had before.”

Thanks so much, Susan!
Thank you, Joan!

A family of skunks was trapped in a
thicket, surrounded by a pack of hungry
wolves that were edging even closer.
The mother skunk calmly instructed her young: "Quickly
children, let's put our heads together!"
After they obeyed, forming a circle, she continued,
"Now—Let us spray!"
