 Once There Were Greenfields

“Come back to me in dreams; that I may give
Pulse for pulse, breath for breath:
Speak low, lean low,
As long ago, my love, how long ago.”

- Christina Rossetti
(05 Dec 1830 - 29 Dec 1894)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,
If I were one of those people who cried at hearing sad old songs, this one would probably take me down. Oh, wait. I am one of those people.....

BONUS - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dERADmL8fAE - Greenfields - The Brothers Four ("Sing Along with Mitch")

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Brothers_Four:

The Brothers Four are an American folk singing group, founded in 1957 in Seattle, Washington, known for their 1960 hit song "Greenfields".

Bob Flick, John Paine, Mike Kirkland, and Dick Foley met at the University of Washington, where they were members of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity in 1956 (hence the "Brothers" appellation). Their first professional performances were the result of a prank played on them in 1958 by a rival fraternity, who had arranged for someone to call them, pretend to be from Seattle's Colony Club, and invite them to come down to audition for a gig. Even though they were not expected at the club, they were allowed to sing a few songs, and were subsequently hired. Flick recalls them being paid "mostly in beer..."

“We know that there are times when we experience heartbreaking sorrow, when we will grieve, and when we may be tested to our limits. However, such difficulties allow us to change for the better, to rebuild our lives in the way our Heavenly Father teaches us, and to become something different from what we were—better than we were, more understanding than we were, more empathetic than we were, with stronger testimonies than we had before.”

- Thomas S. Monson, October 2013
(b. 21 Aug 1927)

    Thanks so much, Susan!

FINALLY:

From www.ajokeaday.com - 08/06/15:

A man got really drunk one night in his local tavern. The barman refused to serve him any more alcohol and told him he should be heading home.

The man thought this was a good idea so he stood up to leave but fell over straight away. He tried to stand up again but only fell over again.

He thought if only he could get outside and get some fresh air, he'd be grand. So he crawled outside then tried to stand up and fell over again.

In the end after falling over lots more he decided to crawl home.

When he got back to his house he pulled himself up using the door handle, but as soon as he let go he fell over again.

He had to crawl up the stairs and managed to fall over onto the bed and fell asleep.

When he finally woke up the next morning, his wife asked him what he was doing at the saloon last night.

He denied it, but she said, "I know you were there. You maintained your innocence until the bartender called to say you forgot your wheelchair again."

Once There Were Greenfields

- Gilkyson, Dehr, Miller

Recorded by The Brothers Four, 1960

Once there were greenfields, kissed by the sun
Once there were valleys, where river used to run
Once there were blue skies with white clouds high above
Once they were part of an everlasting love
We were the lovers who strolled thru greenfields

Greenfields are gone now, parched by the sun
Gone from the valleys were rivers used to run
Gone with the cold wind that swept into my heart
Gone with the lovers who let their love depart
Where are the greenfields that we used to roam

I'll never know what made you run away
How can I keep searching when dark clouds hide the way
I only know there's nothing here for me
Nothing in this wide world left for me to see
But I'll keep on waiting until you return
I'll keep on waiting until the day you learn
You can't be happy when your heart's on the roam
You can't be happy until you bring it home
Home to the greenfields and me once again
