I've Got the World on a String

“I think, I first fell in love when I was in fifth grade with this boy who kept
his glass ruler in the sunlight and made rainbows on my desk with it.”

- Saiber, Stardust and Sheets

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

This isn't actually one of my favorite Sinatra tunes. I'm really a sucker for his love ballads, but hey, it's Frank, soooo...

BONUS - I've Got the World on a String - Frank Sinatra

"I've Got The World on a String" is a 1932 popular jazz song composed by Harold Arlen, with lyrics written by Ted Koehler. It was written for the twenty-first edition of the Cotton Club series which opened on October 23, 1932, the first of the Cotton Club Parades.[1]

The song was introduced and recorded by Cab Calloway. Bing Crosby recorded the song on January 26, 1933 with the Dorsey Brothers and their Orchestra[2] The song was one of the first recorded by Frank Sinatra when he transferred to Capitol Records in 1953. His recording on April 30, 1953 with an orchestra conducted by Nelson Riddle[3] reached #14 on Billboard's most played list...[4]

Trying to get this out early enough that you can calendar in this activity, if interested. It is a set date, rain or shine.
Do not see Stephens City on here, but it is included.

Sorry the last pic of my finds has so much going on. I actually moved a bunch of stuff, just to allow the wood to show. My cats seem to take great delight in removing the tags I have spent time on, so the items need to stay put until I can get them to my displays. I mainly want you to see the nice handle (there are two of them), so you can tell it is a quality piece.

{All of these are finds from the last few years worth of yard crawls.}

I have seen a large variety of things from "Oh, I love that" nice, to meh. With slightly over 43 miles of things, it is certain there will be something worthwhile to find and maybe lots of somethings. There will be other things going on too, as well as lots of interesting people to meet. case you are looking for something different to do, this may be it.

OOH! Thank you so much, Shari! That all looks and sounds fabulous!

From Carlene Matthews Vannoy ('60 / '64) of VA - 08/02/18:

   Thanks, Carlene!

From My Cousin, Cheryl White Wilson (James Blair HS / John Marshall HS - '64) of VA - 08/04/18:

WILD GIGGLES! Thanks, Cheryl! I was actually having this exact thought at the very moment you sent this!

  From Me ('65) of NC - 08/04/18:

I think there's nothing better than laughing in life, so that's nice, to be thought of as someone who can make someone laugh. It's 'cause I think life is hard. You know, my dad was a really silly man. A great Irish silly man. And that's fine.

I've Got the World on a String

Music by Harold Arlen (15 Feb 1905 - 23 Apr 1986), 1932

Lyrics by Ted Koehler (14 July 1894 - 17 Jan 1973)

I've got the world on a string
I'm sitting on a rainbow
Got the string around my finger
What a world, what a life - I'm in love

I've got a song that I sing
I can make the rain go
Any time I move my finger
Lucky me, can't you see - I'm in love

Life is a beautiful thing
As long as I hold the string
I'd be a silly so-and-so
If I should ever let it go

I've got the world on a string
I'm sitting on a rainbow
Got the string around my finger
What a world, what a life - I'm in love

Life is a beautiful thing
As long as I hold the string
I'd be a silly so-and-so
If I should ever let it go

I've got the world on a string
I'm sitting on a rainbow
Got the string around my finger
What a world,
Man, this is the life
Hey now, I'm so in love
