Caribbean Blue

“I live for those who love me, for those who know me true,
for the heaven so blue above me, and the good that I can do.”

- George Linnaeus Banks
(02 Mar 1821 - 03 May 1881)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

   How about some Enya?

BONUS - - Caribbean Blue - Enya

"Caribbean Blue" is a song by Irish musician Enya originally released as the second track on her 1991 album Shepherd Moons. "Caribbean Blue" got to Number 13 in the UK Singles Chart. The song follows a waltz time signature, and mentions the Anemoi (Ancient Greek wind gods): Boreas, Afer Ventus (Africus), Eurus, and Zephyrus...

From Me ('65) of NC - 08/04/15 - "RE:         My Husband, Paul Harty (Bardolph HS, IL - '61) of NC":

The news here would appear to be good, bad, and indifferent. When he saw his new P.A.,   Jennifer Sturken, again on 07/31, his BP was 130/55, he had lost 13 pounds since 06/26, and his potassium levels were (as usual) elevated. His kidney ultrasound on 07/28 revealed (once more) that his kidneys were not functioning properly. We're scheduling another visit to the nephrologist,   Dr. William Buchanan.

The visit to the dermatologist,   Dr. Manfred Rothstein, on 08/04 showed that the surgery to remove the second squamous cell carcinoma on 03/17 had been quite successful, and the wound had healed nicely. A plethora of new pre-cancerous lesions were frozen off in the hopes of stopping their nasty growth.

So there you have it - the cause of my stress and lack of concentration. Your continued prayers would be appreciated.

“Sometimes in life we become so focused on the finish line that we fail to find joy in the journey.”

    Thanks so much, Susan!

From My #2 Son, Brent Harty (Hillsboro HS, IL - '90) of NC - 07/31/15 and 08/03/15:

Check out the monument that was finally installed back at my old unit at Ft Polk, LA today!
It was great to be involved with the vision of preserving the Legacy of the unit and be able to design a monument and participate in the fundraising for it as well.

This project and the Legacy Print have afforded me a reality of doing military art that I only dreamed of in the past.

I wish I could have been there for the unveiling, but timing was such that I had to come to Ft. Bliss before that happened. The two soldiers are the command team of the 1st Maneuver Enhancement Brigade as it activates officially in September.

Here is the new 1MEB monument (back and front) with the Command Team and the Engineers of 46th EN BN (Steel Spike!) who re-did the concrete pad and then installed it at Memorial Park at Ft Polk, LA.... Great stuff!

WOWZERONI-ROONI! I am completed flabbergasted!   Fabulous job, Brent! I'll have to agree with your former commanding officer: "It is Awesome!"

“I think there's nothing better than laughing in life, so that's nice, to be thought of as someone who can make someone laugh. It's 'cause I think life is hard. You know, my dad was a really silly man. A great Irish silly man. And that's fine.

From My Husband, Paul Harty (Bardolph HS, IL - '61) of NC - 07/23/15 - "These Will Make You Smile (#11 in a series of 25)":

  Thanks, Haul Party!
Tea time, Mum! Welcome to my party!

From My Husband, Paul Harty (Bardolph HS, IL - '61) of NC -  07/26/15 - "Smile Propensities (#5 in a series of 28)":

  "Blessed are the cracked….
For they are the ones who let in the light."

     Thank you, Dools!

BONUS CARIBBEAN BLUE CROCHET PATTERN: - Anne Potter's Tobago Belt - "A wonderfully cool accessory, this uber-hip belt gives crochet a new swagger. A bright Caribbean blue yarn and traditional square motifs get along perfectly in this fashion-brilliant belt. I love how the classic Granny square has such attitude seen on this bandolier-inspired hip belt – so cool! While you could make this belt using any small square motif, I’m including directions for the classic double crochet motif shown. This belt is a great on-the-go project thanks to the motif’s small size and simple pattern. Scour thrift shops (or and ebay) for the perfect vintage belt buckle or grab a new one in the notions department of the fabric store. Who knew crochet could be so hip?"

BONUS BLUE FISH RECIPE: - Super Summer Grilled Bluefish - "Have a ton of bluefish and don't know what to do with it? Give this a try! Bluefish has a reputation for being a very strong fish. This super citrus marinade gives this grilled fish a bright and delicious flavor. I just made some (which I caught and froze) and it came out superb."

Caribbean Blue

Enya, 1991
(b. 17 May 1961)

...Afer Ventus... the world goes round and round
With all you ever knew --
They say the sky high above
Is Caribbean blue...

...if every man says all he can,
If every man is true,
Do I believe the sky above
Is Caribbean blue...

...if all you told was turned to gold
If all you dreamed was new,
Imagine sky high above
In Caribbean blue...

Afer Ventus...
