              Ann "Boots" Atkinson Wright

NEWPORT NEWS - Ann Atkinson Wright, 80, best known as "Boots" to her family and friends, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 26, 2012, at Riverside Hospital.

She was born in Newport News and attended Newport News High School where she was thrilled to be a Typhoon cheerleader. There she met her future husband, Jack Wright, senior class president. After Boots graduated, she worked for the Peninsula Credit Bureau while Jack earned his degree from Northwestern Journalism School.

They soon founded the Wright Advertising Agency in downtown Newport News. In addition to raising three sons, the Wright Brothers, she would work in the agency's art department. They felt honored to promote shows at the Hampton Coliseum ranging from Elvis Presley to the Hampton Jazz Festival.

She enjoyed playing bridge, tennis and sailing with her many friends who loved her enthusiasm. Our sorrows will be comforted by our fond memories of her. We all will miss her British gusto for life. Cheers "Miss Bootsie" and Godspeed to your welcoming home in heaven.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Wright.

Boots is survived by her sons, Mark Wright, John Wright, and Bret Wright. She was grandmother, affectionately known as "Nana", to Graham Wright, Clark Wright and Pearce Wright. She is also survived by nieces, Patricia Eken Miller, Beth Eken Shaffer, Ann Peery Porter Remington, Elizabeth Porter Price, Jane Atkinson Embler, June Atkinson Ellis, Wanda Lee Wright; and nephew, Bruce W. Wright.

Future services are to be determined.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Special Olympics of Virginia Beach, 5033 Rouse Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23452.

(And Did Those Feet In Ancient Times)

Words by William Blake (1757-1827)

And did those feet in ancient time
Walk upon England's mountain green?
And was the holy Lamb of God
On England's pleasant pastures seen?
And did the countenance divine
Shine forth upon our clouded hills?
And was Jerusalem builded here
Among those dark satanic mills?

Bring me my bow of burning gold!
Bring me my arrows of desire!
Bring me my spear! O clouds, unfold!
Bring me my chariot of fire!
I will not cease from mental fight,
Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand,
Till we have built Jerusalem
In England's green and pleasant land.
