Dear Friends and Schoolmates,   

    We have still another sad Memorial Edition of the NNHS Newsletter today.    Joel Schwab, father of Fizzy Schwab Berlin ('68) of VA, Jon Schwab ('68) of VA, Phil Schwab ('68) of VA, and of the late Joanie Schwab ('62) (d. 30 Aug 1994), passed away in Newport News on Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at the age of 91.

NEWPORT NEWS - Joel H. Schwab, 91, passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2009.

He was a native of Chemnitz, Germany, and had been a resident of Virginia for 60 years.

Mr. Schwab retired after 40 years of service as a Senior Property Manager for Drucker & Falk, LLC. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII, was a member of the Institute of Real Estate Management and was a volunteer at the Virginia Living Museum in Newport News.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence; and a daughter, Joan Olivia Schwab.

Mr. Schwab is survived by his daughter, Fizzy and her husband, R. Jeffrey Berlin of Virginia Beach; two sons, Jonathan Stuart Schwab of Carrollton and Philip Arthur Schwab of Virginia Beach; one brother, Peter Schwab and his wife, Mia of London, England; granddaughter, Jessica Berlin of Virginia Beach; and two nieces and a nephew.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Beth Sholom Home of Virginia Beach.

At the request of the family, services were private and the burial was held in the Jewish Cemetery of the Virginia Peninsula.

Dear Fizzy, Phillip and Johnny and Family, I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your father. The memories of Stuart Gardens with your family will be treasured ones for me for always. Please know that I am thinking of each of you in your loss.

Fizzy, Phillip and Jonathan:
Sincere sympathy on the loss of your sweet father, Joel. I was a frequent visitor to your home in Christopher Shores back in the 60's and a friend of and graduated with your sister Joanie, who was always lots of fun. Your mother and father were very special.

To the Schwab Family:

I had the privilege of working with you father at Drucker & Falk just a few years before he retired. Joel was such a sweet and gentle man, who had a wonderful smile, and always shared words of encouragement. He called your mother every morning from the office and told her how much he loved her and I loved him for that! I will always have very fond memories of of your father, as I know you will.
