Knees of My Bees

“LIFE is a mosaic of pleasure and pain - grief is an interval between two moments of joy. Peace is the interlude between two wars.
You have no rose without a thorn; the diligent picker will avoid the pricks and gather the flower. There is no bee without the sting;
cleverness consists in gathering the honey nevertheless.”

- Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba
(
b. 23 Nov 1926)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,
Today's Newsletter is prompted by - well, you'll figure it out.

I was unable to locate a midi file for it, but considering the frustration the midis have caused me this week, perhaps that's just as well.

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alanis_Morissette:

Alanis Nadine Morissette (born June 1, 1974) is a Canadian-American singer-songwriter, record producer and actress. She has won 16 Juno Awards and seven Grammy Awards. Morissette began her career in Canada, and as a teenager recorded two dance-pop albums, Alanis and Now Is the Time, under MCA Records Canada... In February 2005, Morissette became a naturalized citizen of the United States while maintaining her Canadian citizenship.[4]

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/So-Called_Chaos:

So-Called Chaos is the sixth studio album (fourth released internationally) by Canadian singer-songwriter Alanis Morissette, released in May 2004 (see 2004 in music).

It had been two years since Morissette released her fifth studio album, Under Rug Swept. In that time she had met her fiancé Ryan Reynolds, so her cheery disposition made its presence felt in many of the songs she wrote for So-Called Chaos. The album found her in a more contented and relaxed state than ever, and her songs were brighter and happier than her more volatile works like "You Oughta Know" and "Uninvited". One reporter asked if the song "This Grudge" was based on the same person as "You Oughta Know", and Morissette replied, "Different person, same era."[2]

REUNION ALERTS:

      From Dave Arnold ('65) of VA - 05/11/10 - "Class of 1965's 45-Year Reunion":

The NNHS Class of 1965 will hold its 45-Year Reunion on Friday and Saturday, October 15 and 16, 2010 - which is OPEN to all classes!

< Friday evening we will meet at R.J.'s Restaurant and Sports Bar. The only cost will be what you choose to eat and drink. The company will be priceless.

Saturday will be spent at Newport News Park. We've reserved a group shelter that can seat 150 people with sufficient cover to take care of any weather concerns. If you made it to the 55th Birthday Party you'll recall it was held at the Park in one of the smaller shelters. The facility we're using this time is a new addition and will give us lots of flexibility to meet and reminisce. The cost of this event is $15.00 per person through August 31, 2010. After that date the cost will be $20.00 per person. The charge for Saturday will cover your food and beverages.

NOTE: I had planned to finish several more sections, but this is taking even longer (and making me even nutzier!) than I had anticipated, so I'll be working on this for the next few days.

From My Niece, Shari, of VA - 07/20/10 - "BEES":

Hi Carol,

Please thank your friend
Joan (Lauterbach Krause - '60 - of VA) for her reply. The bees seem to be gone. I sprayed ammonia and an exterminator also sprayed something and at least for the time being they have departed. I will continue to spray ammonia periodically as a precaution. I think they are attracted to the wooden patio and deck. The very large bees are now gone, but the Cicada Killer Wasps are still here. I downloaded a few pictures of them and included them in this email. They are quite large and the males do not sting, yet the females can. We are now left with Cicada Killer Wasps that I am told are not aggressive unless they sense a threat, but their stings I read range from mildly to extremely painful. I think I will stay my distance. Isn't that special we had both bees and wasps? NOT! Upon researching these Cicada Killer Wasps are a nuisance, but should be gone by mid August. On the plus side, they are interesting looking.

L.Y.,
Shari

YOWZERONI! Well, it's good that those bees are gone, anyway! Thanks, Shari - love you, too!

  From Frances Heath Scott ('62) of VA - 07/18/10 and 07/20/10 - "
   Tommy's Memorial Edition":

Dear Carol,

I'm sorry I have taken so long to respond........turtles would run circles around me!  Thanks so much for adding those family members.  As for Peggy and Bobby Manning (sister and brother).....you just needed to go back a little farther........since that's all you have to do. Ha! Ha!  Anyway, Peggy graduated in June 1950 and Bobby finished in February of '45 or '46, I think. He stayed on 'til June to help teach others how to play the French horn.  He was also old enough to be in the category of attending school for 11 years, instead of 12.

Peggy and I were together yesterday for the funeral of
Jean (Reynolds) Scott (Tommy and Peggy's last aunt) and the mother of    Wade (Weenie) Scott, NNHS - 66..... He and his wife, Joann, moved to Wentzville, Missouri a number of years ago. It's been a tough 6 months for him, Peggy, and me because we have been so close...... and Weenie's second trip to N.N. for a funeral in such a short time.....

Also......... my son and his family are moving back home from Massachusetts!!!!!!!!  I am so happy over that!

..... Again, thanks for all you do for our Typhoons!

Fran

Hi Carol,

Sometimes I wonder about me!  After sending you the info on Jeannie Scott the other day, I realized I didn't mention that Weenie (Wade, NNHS 66) Scott, and his sisters
Candy & Deedee (Ferguson HS...family moved), of course, are Tommy's first cousins, as well as Peggy and Bobby Manning. (I also can't remember where Pam Scott Willis, oldest of Weenie's 3 sisters and deceased, went to h.s.;  I think she was at NNHS for awhile.)  Tom and Weenie were close, so you'd think my brain would function a little better and remember. My only excuse is losing Jeannie so soon after Tom.  Anyway, I reckon all this isn't necessary other than many people didn't realize Tom's connection to these people.

Take care,
Fran  Thank you so much for sharing all this with us, Fran!
I would certainly think that you're functioning as well as could possibly be expected under the circumstances!

How Many Dogs Does It Take To Change A Light Bulb?

1. Golden Retriever: The sun is shining, the day is young, we've got our whole lives ahead of us, and you're inside worrying about a stupid burned out bulb?

2. Border Collie: Just one. And then I'll replace any wiring that's not up to code.

3. Dachshund: You know I can't reach that stupid lamp!

4. Rottweiler: Make me.

5. Boxer: Who cares? I can still play with my squeaky toys in the dark.

6. Lab: Oh, me, me!!!!! Pleeeeeeeeeze let me change the light bulb! Can I? Can I? Huh? Huh? Huh? Can I? Pleeeeeeeeeze, please, please, please!

7. German Shepherd: I'll change it as soon as I've led these people from the dark, check to make sure I haven't missed any, and make just one more perimeter patrol to see that no one has tried to take advantage of the situation.

8. Jack Russell Terrier: I'll just pop it in while I'm bouncing off the walls and furniture.

9. Old English Sheep Dog: Light bulb? I'm sorry, but I don't see a light bulb!

10. Cocker Spaniel: Why change it? I can still pee on the carpet in the dark.

11. Chihuahua: Yo quiero Taco Bulb. Or "We don't need no stinking light bulb."

12. Greyhound: It isn't moving. Who cares?

13. Australian Shepherd: First, I'll put all the light bulbs in a little circle...

14. Poodle: I'll just blow in the Border Collie's ear and he'll do it. By the time he finishes rewiring the house, my nails will be dry.

Drink, Steal, Swear, and Lie

I met this guy while I was in Albuquerque, and he has a motto he lives by every day. He said, "Listen carefully and live by these four rules: Drink, Steal, Swear, and Lie."

I was shaking my head No! but he then told me to listen while he explained his four rules. So here they are:

1. Drink from the everlasting cup every day.

2. Steal a moment to help someone who is in worse shape than you are.

3. Swear that you will be a better person today than yesterday.

4. And last, but not least, when you lie down at night thank God you live in America and have freedom.

Crucial Advice

I need some advice on what could be a life changing decision. Thanks in advance.

I've suspected for some time now that my girlfriend has been seeing someone else. The usual signs. Phone rings, I answer, someone hangs up. She started going out 'with the girls' a lot recently although when I ask which girls it is always "Just some friends from work, you don't know them". I always look out for her taxi coming home but she always walks down the drive although I can hear a car setting off. As if she has got out of the car round the corner. Why? Is it not a taxi? I once picked her mobile up just to see what time it was and she went berserk and screamed that I should never touch her phone again and why was I checking up on her.

Anyway, I have never approached the subject with my girlfriend. I think deep down I just didn't want to know the truth but last night she went out again and I decided to check on her. I decided I was going to hide behind my car which would give me a view of the whole street so I could see which car she gets out of. It was whilst crouched behind my car that I noticed rust around my rear wheel arch.

Should I take it into a body repair shop or should I buy some stuff from the local auto shop and try to repair it myself?

Knees of My Bees

Written and Recorded by Alanis Morissette (b. 01 June 1974), 2004

We share a culture same vernacular
Love of physical humor and time spent alone
You with your penchant for spontaneous advents
For sticky and raspy, unearthed and then gone

You are a gift renaissance with a wink
With tendencies for conversations that raise bars
You are a sage who is fueled by compassion
Comes to nooks and crannies as balm for all scars

You make the knees of my bees weak, tremble and buckle
You make the knees of my bees weak

You are a spirit that knows of no limit
That knows of no ceiling who baulks at dead-ends
You are a wordsmith who cares for his brothers
Not seduced by illusion or fair-weather friends

You make the knees of my bees weak, tremble and buckle
You make the knees of my bees weak

You are a vision who lives by the signals of
Stomach and intuition as your guide
You are a sliver of god on a platter
Who walks what he talks and who cops when he's lied

You make the knees of my bees weak, tremble and buckle
You make the knees of my bees weak
You make the knees of my bees weak, tremble and buckle
You make the knees of my bees weak
You make the knees of my bees weak, tremble and buckle
You make the knees of my bees weak
