07/19/18 - NNHS Newsletter - Summer Song

“I walk without flinching through the burning cathedral of the
summer. My bank of wild grass is majestic and full of music.
It is a fire that solitude presses against my lips.”

- Violette Leduc, La Folie en tête (Mad in Pursuit)
(07 Apr 1907 - 28 May 1972)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

Here in Fayetteville, we're having a blessedly much cooler week than is the norm. In fact, temperatures are only expected to reach 90 on today and Sunday. Still, I've never been much of a fan of summer and the heat under normal conditions - unless I can bask in the glory of air conditioning, that is. In fact, I am inordinately fond of staying inside and enjoying The Great Indoors and observing the scenery through the window, but then, you've always known I am nothing if not weird.

BONUS - Summer Song - Joe Satriani, 2006

  For those who don't know.

Thank you, Liam! These errors drive me bonkers!  ARGHHH!

From My Friend, April, of NC - 07/18/15:

Thanks so much, April! How interesting that you and Liam sent these on the same day! Once again, this one omitted four of my own pet peeves:

   1. "I feel nauseous" should be "I feel nauseated."

   2.  "...different than..." NO! "...different from..."

   3.  Fewer and less: Use fewer when referring to items you can count, like “fewer hours” or “fewer dollars.” Use “less” when referring to items you can’t (or haven’t tried to) count, like “less time” or “less money.”

   4. "She passed last night." Passed what? Her driving test? A kidney stone, perhaps?? Oh, she passed away! I see. Well, then, why didn't you SAY so???

Now for the main question. Why are all these things driving me even crazier now than they were before? I thought we were "posta" mellow as we aged!?! It's not happening!! ARGHHH!

“If the fans don’t wanna come out to the ballpark, no one can stop ‘em.
