Dear Friends and Schoolmates,   

   We have more sad news to report today.  Freddie Hawkins, Class of @ 1961, husband of Nancy Powell Hawkins of VA, passed away in Hampton on Saturday, July 17, 2010.  He was the brother of Sue Hawkins Wright and the brother-in-law of    Lydia Powell Mugler ('58) of VA.

HAMPTON - Thomas Freddie Hawkins Sr., died Saturday, July 17, 2010.

A lifelong resident of the Peninsula, he graduated from Newport News High School and worked for Creasy and Whiteed Roofing and Sheetmetal.

Mr. Hawkins is survived by his wife, Nancy Powell Hawkins; son, Freddie Hawkins Jr.; grandchildren, Zachary Thomas Hawkins, Jessica Layne Hawkins and Mackenzie Ann Hawkins; sister, Sue Wright and family; and sister-in-law, Lydia Powell Mugler and family.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2010, at Berceuse Funeral and Cremation Traditions, 2609 Cunningham Drive, Hampton.

  I am so sorry to hear about Mr. Hawkins. I grew up on the corner of Lynnhaven and Concord and Mr. Hawkins always waved at us when we was growing up. He will be sadly missed. Now he is an angel watching over his family and he will protect you. If there is anything we can help with please feel free to call us. Mr. Hawkins was a great man and he will be sadly missed. R.I.P.

My condolences to Freddie's family. We were track teammates at NNHS in the early '60s.He was a dedicated, stand-up guy.

Freddie assisted me many times in my sign work. He was a fine man and I enjoyed my acquaintance with him. I hope good memories of him will help get you through these difficult times.
