Dear Friends and Schoolmates,   

   There is still more sad news this Thursday morning.   Thelma Price Ellis, mother of   Don Ellis ('58) of VA,   Barbara Ellis Preece ('62) of VA, and   Chris Ellis ('64) of VA, and of the late      Nelson Ellis, star athlete of the Class of 1956 (d. 28 Sept 2011), passed away at home in Newport News on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at the age of 97.

                 Thelma Price Edwards

    NEWPORT NEWS - Thelma P. Ellis, 97, passed away peacefully in her home on July 14, 2015.

She was born in Surry County, Surry, Virginia on June 28, 1918, and was a Peninsula resident for 80 years. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Thelma was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Gordon Ellis; parents, Charles and Annie Rose Price of Bacon Castle; brother, Lloyd Price of Bacon Castle; and oldest son, Nelson Ellis of Newport News.

Survivors include her only daughter, Barbara Ellis Preece; two sons, Donald Ellis and Chris Ellis; three grandchildren, Joseph Gary, Boyd Fromherz and Tricia O'Grady; four great-grandchildren, Alec Fromherz, Madison Fromherz, Lisa O'Grady and Joshua O'Grady; her best friend, Anne Brown whom she has known for 40 years and worked with at Hofheimer's Shoe Store on Washington Avenue in Newport News. She also retired from Hofheimer's after 32 years.

 
 
 
 
  The family will receive friends from 3:00-5:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 19, 2015 at Peninsula Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 20 at Peninsula Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Enscore officiating. Interment will follow at Peninsula Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Bacon's Castle Cemetery Association, C/O P.G. West, Jr., 5312 Colonial Trail, Surry, Va 23883 in Thelma's honor. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.
