Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

From the Daily Press - 07/16/15:

                 James Curtis Edwards

      YORKTOWN - Jimmy Edwards passed away on Tuesday morning, July 14, 2015 at home.

He was born and raised in downtown Newport News by Godly and loving parents Curtis and Rachel Edwards along with his sister Judy Edwards Andrews (now of Suffolk).

He graduated from Newport News High School in 1962 and attended Virginia Tech. He began his career as a draftsman at Fort Eustis and worked his way to Director of Operations and Support at the Army Training Support Center where he retired in 2000.

Jimmy began his life in Christ as a child at Ivy Memorial Baptist Church. In his early 20s, he raised his daughter Sherri with the help of his parents. He renewed a firm faith in Christ and never wavered. He continued to grow in faith with the help of many Godly men and women.

Jimmy Edwards

He served on the Greater Peninsula Crusade for Christ and was recruited to teach at Seaford Baptist Church where he met Sally Crafford, his wife now of forty years. Jimmy had a God given gift of Bible Study and taught at Peninsula Rock Church, Liberty Baptist Church, Seaford Baptist Church, The Vineyard, and Menchville Baptist Church, where he served the last 20 years as teacher, preaching occasionally, and volunteered as Staff Assistant. He influenced and touched the lives of many people and was loved for it.

He deeply loved His Lord, his wife Sally, his daughter Sherri Hartzheim, grandchildren Hannah Rae (19) and Curtis Patrick (15), their father Patrick Hartzheim, and his grand dog Sandy.

A celebration of life will be held at Menchville Baptist Church on Friday, July 17, at 5pm. A time of fellowship will follow in the Family Life Center.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Jimmy Edwards Sunday School Class, Pay if Forward Fund, Menchville Baptist Church, 248 Menchville Road, Newport News, Va 23602. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

Oh, How I Love Jesus

Words by Frederick Whitfield; Traditional American Melody

There is a name I love to hear,
I love to sing its worth;
It sounds like music in my ear,
The sweetest name on earth.

chorus:
Oh, how I love Jesus,
Oh, how I love Jesus,
Oh, how I love Jesus,
Because He first loved me!

It tells me of a Saviour's love,
Who died to set me free;
It tells me of His precious blood,
The sinner's perfect plea.
(chorus)

It tells me what my Father hath,
In store for every day,
And tho' I tread a darksome path,
Yields sunshine all the way.
(chorus)

It tells of One whose loving heart
Can feel my deepest woe,
Who in each sorrow bears a part,
That none can bear below.
(chorus)
