Catch a Falling Star

“Go, and catch a falling star, Get with child a mandrake root,
Tell me, where all past years are, Or who cleft the Devil's foot.”

John Donne, “Song: Go And Catch A Falling Star”, collected in Songs and Sonnets, 1633
(21 Jan 1572 - 31 Mar 1631)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

I love Perry Como. I've always loved Perry Como.

BONUS - Catch a Falling Star - Perry Como, 1957

Catch a Falling Star, written by Paul Vance and Lee Pockriss, is a song made famous by Perry Como's hit version, released in 1957. It was Como's last #1 hit, [1] reaching #1 in the Billboard "Most Played By Jockeys" chart but not in the overall top-100, where it reached #2. [citation needed] It was the first single to receive a gold record, on March 14, 1958.[2] The single won Como the 1959 Grammy Award for Best Vocal Performance, Male.

The song has been featured in several films, including The Princess Diaries, Love Actually, Everybody's Fine and Never Been Kissed. It has often been featured in the tv series Lost; it is most often associated with Claire Littleton and could be considered her theme in the series.

"Catch a Falling Star" is a song composed by Lee Pockriss and Paul Vance, and recorded in 1957 by Perry Como. It became the first R.I.A.A.-certified "Gold Record" in 1958 and won Perry Como the award for "Best Vocal Performance, Male" at the first annual Grammy Awards in 1959.

From Jimmy Dick ('65) of FL - 07/12/21, 3:38 AM:

Good morning, my friends as another Monday begins. Oh no, some of us might say, not Monday already. Why can't it just be Saturday morning again. Well, it can't because life doesn't work that way, so, instead of focusing on the past let's focus on the future instead. Each Monday should be looked at as a clean slate and a day to vow to make it a better week than the last one as we continually strive to be better and better all through our life. After all, isn't life a learning experience? So, take it in stride and focus on the things that need to prioritize your life. Get up, get moving, say a prayer and get the coffee brewing. It's Monday, a day to approach like a challenge with kindness in your heart and a commitment to get things done the right way. Now, move out, we've got work to do. Enjoy this Monday and make it a very memorable and productive day.

    Thank you, Jimmy!

Falling Stars Hat by Melissa Schaschwary "It’s coming on the time of year where I start bringing hot cocoa and hot cider to the bonfires I enjoy with my husband, my sister, brothers and our friends. It’s become a tradition to get together once a month, to listen to the music we love while laughing with each other under the night time, country sky until we each see a shooting star. The stitch pattern on the brim of this hat reminds me of those stars. This is a mega quick knit and great stash buster project!" - $2.68

From - 07/11/21:

A man who hadn't attended church in years suddenly began attending faithfully on Sunday mornings instead of going fishing as was his normal habit.

The pastor was highly gratified and at the end of service one morning told him, "How wonderful it makes me feel to see you at services with your good wife!"

"Well, Preacher," said the fisherman, "Quite honestly, it's a matter of choice. I'd much rather hear your sermon than hers."

Catch a Falling Star

Written by Paul Vance (b. 04 Nov 1929) and Lee Pockriss, 1957

Recorded by Perry Como (18 May 1912 – 12 May 2001), 1957

Catch a falling star an’ put it in your pocket,
Never let it fade away!
Catch a falling star an’ put it in your pocket,
Save it for a rainy day!

For love may come an' tap you on the shoulder,
Some star-less night!
Just in case you feel you wanna’ hold her,
You’ll have a pocketful of starlight!

Catch a falling star an’ ( Catch a falling . . . ) put it in your pocket,
Never let it fade away! ( Never let it fade away! )
Catch a falling star an’ ( Catch a falling . . . ) put it in your pocket,
Save it for a rainy day! ( Save it for a rainy day! )

For love may come and tap you on the shoulder,
Some star-less night!
An’ just in case you feel you wanta’ hold her,
You’ll have a pocketful of starlight!

( . . . pocketful of starlight! ) [ hum in time ]

Catch a falling star an’ ( Catch a falling . . . ) put it in your pocket,
Never let it fade away! ( Never let it fade away! )
Catch a falling star an’ ( Catch a falling . . . ) put it in your pocket,
Save it for a rainy day! ( Save it for a rainy . . . Save it for a rainy, rainy rainy day! )

For when your troubles startn’ multiplyin’,
An' they just might!
It’s easy to forget them without tryin’,
With just a pocketful of starlight!

Catch a falling star an’ ( Catch a falling . . . ) put it in your pocket,
Never let it fade away! ( Never let it fade away! )
Catch a falling star an’ put it in your pocket,
Save it for a rainy day!

( Save it for rainy day! ) Save it for a rainy day!
