For Your Precious Love

“Friendships are fragile things, and require as much handling
as any other fragile and precious thing.”

- Randolph Bourne
(30 May 1886 - 22 Dec 1918)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

I think it's time for a sad old love song - but then, I almost always think it's time for a sad old love song.

BONUS - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_2y7bWN2u1s&feature=related - For Your Precious Love - Jerry Butler and the Inspirations, back then

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/For_your_precious_love:

"For Your Precious Love" is a song written by Arthur Brooks, Richard Brooks and Jerry Butler, and performed by Butlers' group The Impressions in 1958. It was released as a single on Vee-Jay Records and peaked at number 11 on the Billboard Best Sellers in Stores and Top 100 charts. The song was ranked as the 327th greatest song of all-time by Rolling Stone magazine in 2004.

The song has been covered numerous times with many versions reaching the US charts as well, including a new version by Butler himself, who peaked at number 99 on the Hot 100 chart in March 1966.

The 1968 version in South Africa by Durban group, The Flames, reached the top spot on the local charts[1] and has been considered a classic in the country ever since.

HEALTH UPDATE:

     From Me ('65) of NC - 07/09/13:

I went back to the doctor - actually my PA - yesterday afternoon for the final verdict on my thyroid medication. Very soon now I shall shed great layers of blubber and move like the   Energizer Bunny.  That's my story, anyway.  I was not necessarily successful in getting anyone in the office to agree with me on those points.

While I was there he listened to my lungs which had begun wheezing and causing me intense coughing and pain in the lower chest around the ribs again this week.

They took two X-Rays, and we could see the problem. My right lung has a bunch of gunk in it - congestion and/or scar tissue from that pneumonia I had back at the end pf April.  It wasn't pretty...

He gave me a week's worth of RX cough medicine, ordered a shot of antibiotics into my hip, and called in another antibiotic plus some Prednisone to my pharmacy. I'll be going back in two weeks to check on the lungs, and in three months to check on the thyroid - plus get a flu shot.

Meanwhile, I'm groggy and light-headed --- you know, same as usual.....

From Don Harvey ('53) of VA- 07/08/13:

I'm certain that    Kay Sawyer (Jones) was my NNHS classmate of 1953 rather than 1950.

Don Harvey ('53)

Thank you, Don! As my cute little Eight Ball gizmo would say, "IT IS DECIDEDLY SO"!

The good news is that in all the places where it really counts, I did put 1953 rather than 1950. It was only on the odious announcement where I wrote 1950. It was a typo. How could it have been a typo when the "3" and the "0" are nowhere near each other on the keyboard, you ask? Well, technically, it was an error of the brain, not the fingers. I suppose that makes it a "brypo" - which is bad enough, but it could have been worse. It might have been a "bipo" - which is basically the same, but with manic-depressive overtones.

I am reminded of August of 2007 when by omitting a single letter I managed to send out an announcement that was at once hysterically funny, but openly pornographic in tone - with no hope of recalling it. Oh, the humanity.....

From Joyce Lawrence Cahoon ('65) of VA - 07/08/13:

The people we don't have to see everyday....we just know they are there.....

Life is too short to wake up with regrets.
So love the people who treat you right.
Love the ones who don't just because you can.
Believe everything happens for a reason.
If you get a second chance, grab it with both hands.
If it changes your life, let it.
Kiss slowly.
Forgive quickly.
God never said life would be easy.
He just promised it would be worth it.

   Thanks so much, Joyce!

FINALLY:

From www.ajokeaday.com - 07/08/13:

A guy drove to the beach and parked his car close to the water's edge - not realizing it was Low Tide - then he went for a long hike up into the mountains. During his excursion, High Tide came and then receded - completely submersing his car for a period of time in the process. When he finally returned to his car - he became very concerned when he found out that he had Tuna in his Mercury!

For Your Precious Love

Written by Jerry Butler (b. 08 Dec 1939), 1958

Recorded by Jerry Butler and The Impressions, 1958

Your precious love means more to me
Than any love could ever be.
For when I wanted you,
I was so lonely and blue,
For That's what love will do
And darling, I'm so surprised,
Oh, When I first realized
That you were fooling me.

And darling, they say that our love won't grow.
But I just want to tell them they don't know.
For as long as you're in love with me,
Our love will grow wider,
Deeper than any sea.

And of all the things that I want,
In this whole wide world, is
Just for you to say that you'll be my girl.
Wanting you, I'm so lonely and blue.
That's what love will do.
