Carl R. Timberlake
(d. 30 June 2007)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

Yet again we have sad news to report. Carl Timberlake, father of Marian ("Sissy") Timberlake Gitchell ('57) of FL, William ("Bubba") Timberlake (‘58) of VA,  Martha ("Puddy") Timberlake Reichard ('62) of MS, and Carol Timberlake Rozhon ('65) of FL, has passed away in Newport News at the age of 93.

From Joe Madagan ('57) of FL - 07/02/07 - "More sad news.":

Hi, Carol:

You probably have already received this sad news, but just in case it has not reached you, here is a notice:

Marion Timberlake Gitchell's father passed away Saturday.....

Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Mizpah,
Joe Madagan ('57) of FL

I did see the obituary, Joe, and thought he must be their father, but I've jumped to the wrong conclusion before.  Thank you for affirming this sad news for us.  I'm so sorry to hear it.

From Puddy Timberlake Reichard ('62) of MS to Karrin Williams Frankie (Warwick HS - '61) of VA - 07/01/07:

Karrin,

I have dreaded to write this email; I have no phone number for you. But Daddy passed away sometime late Friday night or early Saturday morning in his sleep. I know he is so thrilled to me with Mama, but I am so selfish and hate this all! He was coming for my grand opening of my new Tea Room later on this month. I called him every morning on my way to work. He was my rock.....

From  Karrin Williams Frankie (Warwick HS - '61) of VA - 07/02/07 - "Puddy Timberlake Reichard Lost her Dad":

Patty (Andrews) Mays ('61 - of VA) called me yesterday to say they had announced that Carl Timberlake had died sometime Friday night or Saturday morning. He was 93 and is the father of Puddy (Martha T. Reichard).

I talked to Puddy about 5PM and she was at the airport coming into to town and will be staying at her dad’s home in Hidenwood.

There is a small obit in today’s paper stating the graveside funeral will be Friday at 1PM.

..... These are the classes I think they were in. Might be wrong

Martha (Puddy) ‘62

Carol ‘65

William (Bubba) ‘58

Marian (Sissy) ‘57

Thank you, so much, Karrin.  I'm very saddened to hear this news, but I greatly appreciate your detail.

We are remembering you in our thoughts and prayers at this time. One of my fondest memories of Carl was when he would say that he and GOD did it together. What a precious man! I will not be able to attend the graveside services because I am with Jason and Brooke in Georgia and their two newborn, twin sons (Jacob and Thomas). GOD bless you. Love in Christ, Patty Thomas

Lead, Kindly Light

Words: John Henry Newman, 1833
Music: John B. Dykes, 1865

Lead, kindly Light, amid th’encircling gloom,
Lead Thou me on!
The night is dark, and I am far from home;
Lead Thou me on!
Keep Thou my feet; I do not ask to see
The distant scene; one step enough for me.

I was not ever thus, nor prayed that Thou
Shouldst lead me on;
I loved to choose and see my path; but now
Lead Thou me on!
I loved the garish day, and, spite of fears,
Pride ruled my will. Remember not past years!

So long Thy power hath blessed me, sure it will,
Will lead me on.
O’er moor and fen, o’er crag and torrent, till
The night is gone,
And with the morn those angel faces smile,
Which I have loved long since, and lost awhile!

Meantime, along the narrow rugged path,
Thyself hast trod,
Lead, Savior, lead me home in childlike faith,
Home to my God.
To rest forever after earthly strife
In the calm light of everlasting life.
