We have yet another sad edition of the NNHS Newsletter this morning. 
Bill Williamson, father of Howard Williamson (Hampton HS - '63) of VA, and father-in-law of    Shirley Caudill Williamson ('65) of VA, passed away at home in Newport News on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at the age of 86.  Another son, Billy Williamson (Hampton HS - '64 or '65), preceded him in death in 2006:

              William Leamon Williamson

 

NEWPORT NEWS - William Leamon Williamson, 86, passed away at his home on Tuesday, June 24, 2008, after a short illness.

He was born Oct. 19, 1921 in Ash, N.C., the first child of Matthew and Effie Williamson. He spent his childhood on the farm. He later served in the U.S. Army during World War II and had been a Peninsula resident since 1951.

He retired in 1983, after 33 years, as a burner in the Welders Department at Newport News Shipbuilding. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and watching all types of sports. He was a member of West Hampton Baptist Church and had attended church and Sunday school there since 1957.

Mr. Williamson was preceded in death in 2006 by a son, William E. Williamson.

 

 

 


He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Liz Williamson; three children, a son, Howard L. Williamson and his wife, Shirley, two daughters, Janice Gary and her husband, Ryan and Angela Jean Lawson and her husband, Douglas; nine grandchildren, Thomas Shively, Donnie Shively, Wendy Hall, Gregory Williamson, Sandy Zielsdorf, Kimberly Williamson, William E. Williamson Jr., Dianna Lawson and Lori Lawson. He was also survived by five great-grandchildren, Cory Shively, Justin Shively, Eric Williamson, Summer Williamson and Hannah Hall; three sisters, Virginia Stalvey, Margaret Soles and Frances Radvansky and her husband, Bob; a brother, Hubert Williamson and his wife, Mary; sister-in-law, Alma Long and her husband, Vance; and a host of nieces, nephews and in-laws.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at Peninsula Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 26, 2008, at the funeral home, officiated by Dr. Danny Owen. Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park.
