Dear Friends and Schoolmates,   

    We have more sad news to report today.  Louise Evans Coughenour, mother of Margaret Padgett Jordan ('61) of VA, passed away in Newport News on Thursday, June 19, 2014 at the age of 89.

NEWPORT NEWS, VIRGINIA - Fannie Louise Coughenour, 89, of Newport News, died, June 19, 2014.

She was born in Richmond, VA, to Ray Shelton Evans and Grace Whitman. Louise graduated from Poquoson High School in 1943.

She began her Civil Service career at Camp Patrick Henry, Newport News, VA, in the early 1940s and retired from the U.S. Army Transportation Center and Fort Eustis, VA, in January 1980.

Preceded in death by her husband, Albert Russell Coughenour, and seven of her eleven siblings; survivors include her daughter, Margaret Padgett Jordan and her husband, Leland of Newport News; a granddaughter, Michelle Furr Johnson of Bristow, VA; three sisters, Mary Nash, Doris Michelborough, and Daisy Forbes; a brother, Ray S. Evans, Jr.; and her brother-in-law, Richard L. Coughenour; and many nieces and nephews.

Louise was a strong and independent woman. She was the matriarch of four generations of the Evans family and loved each and everyone of them. She never forgot a birthday or an anniversary. She loved entertaining friends and family, playing bridge, and trips to Las Vegas with her sister-in-law Arlene Evans.

The family would like to extend its gratitude and appreciation to Riverside Hospice, especially Andrew Waller, LPN; and family member Terri Brady Evans, RN.
