"It is great to have friends when one is young, but indeed it is
- Edvard Grieg
Dear Friends and Schoolmates,
| I was
struck by the poignancy of this quotation from Grieg, and even more so when
I realized that he was barely 64 when he died. I
mean, YOWZERONI, that's not even old!
But isn't this just the most delightful music?!?
From Our Wizard of Wonderment, Dave Spriggs ('64) of VA - 06/04/06:
|..... Now, Grieg is another matter.
Several come to mind, all from Peer Gynt and all instantly recognizable:
In The Hall of the Mountain King - too plodding and bombastic.
Morning - too soothing ... it will lull the readers to sleep.
Anitra's Dance - perfect.
ABSOLUTELY!!! Thank you so much, David!
If y'all want to listen to more, see this link from Captain Spriggs:
From Me ('65) of NC - 06/15/06:
I love Grieg! I love this piece that David
found in particular, but I absolutely adore so many of Grieg's compositions!
Did I tell you that I finally realized on Sunday (with a little help from a friend)
that it was Grieg's Piano Concerto in A that I so often play in my dreams?
Ahhh - what a great dream! The floor quietly but surely rotates to reveal an entire orchestra to lend their support - just like in those old movie musicals from the 30's I used to watch when I was home, uh, "sick".
From Edna Whitcomb Harrison ('65) of VA - 06/14/06 - "BUNGLES":
Since Bungles has
been mentioned so much lately, I thought I would send you a picture of
Bungles for the website.
WOWZERONI!!! What a treasure!!! Thanks for sharing that with us, Edna!
And your timing was perfect. I had just finished creating this new page when your note arrived last night:
http://www.nnhs65.00freehost.com/television.html - brand new page!
More From Our Wizard of Wonderment, Dave Spriggs ('64) of VA - 06/15/06:
MIDI music for television is a real challenge..... I
joined (five vintage) WAV files in MP3 format and got it down to 64kB.
"Much Better"?!? WOWZERONI-RINI-ROONI!!!
David, you, Sir, are a super genius! I just knew you'd have a brilliant idea! That is soooo cool!!! Thanks so much!
And .... since memories are floating
in about our old TV personalities, permit me to add a few:
So there you are, Sweetie-Pies - a brand new page for you to share your combined memories of TV as we knew in back in the olden days.
From Me ('65) of NC - 06/15/06 - "Our Old Neighborhoods":
This section is so embryonic, I'm embarrassed to show it to you now, but it
will develop quickly, I'm sure:
http://www.nnhs65.00freehost.com/neighborhoods.html - brand new section
http://www.nnhs65.00freehost.com/STUART-GARDENS-AREA.html - brand new page
Obviously, there's plenty of room for memory sharing here.
From My Niece, Shari of VA - 06/12/06 - "It Only Takes a Minute":
And I've made this so easy for you. Look at the top of every Newsletter - and CLICK!
On June 15, 1215, England's King John put his seal to Magna Carta ("the Great Charter") at Runnymede.
And aren't you glad?!?
From Dee Hodges Bartram ('66) of VA - 06/13/06:
Just a reminder about the cost of the 1966 reunion. It will go from $50 per person to $60 per person July 2nd. Please let people know about the increase (it was in the original letter). We have catering and other financial deadlines to meet, as all reunions do, so we need to have the money as soon as possible from those that are going to attend.
Thank you, Dee! Sometimes we forget! So don't forget! You DON'T want to miss this one!
Reunion information is ALWAYS posted very near the top on the front page, and on the Reunion Page section:
Henceforth, it will be repeated
here, lest you forget:
