June 09, 1667 - Second Anglo-Dutch War: The Raid on the Medway by the Dutch fleet began. It lasted for five days and resulted in the worst ever defeat of the Royal Navy.


June 09, 1940 - Norway surrendered to the Nazis.

June 09, 1944 - 99 civilians were hung from lampposts and balconies by German troops in Tulle, France, in reprisal for maquisards attacks.

June 09, 1944 - The Soviet Union invaded East Karelia and the previously Finnish part of Karelia, occupied by Finland since 1941. Russia was fighting to gain back territory that had been ceded to it under the terms of the Treaty of Moscow of 1940.

June 09, 1995 - Japan's parliament passed a controversial resolution designed to atone for the country's role in World War II.


Thursday, June 09, 1960 - The Newport News High School Class of 1960 was graduated.

I've attached scans of the invitation, program and tickets for Commencement Exercises for the Class of 1960. 
Commencement took place on Thursday, June 9, 1960 at 8 pm. Please note a typo - the program says

, June 9th but commencement was actually on Thursday, June 9th.
I also have the invitation for the "Graduation Dance at Newport News High School Cafeteria" for Thursday, June 9, 1960,
from 10 pm to 1 am; a ticket and program for the Junior-Senior Prom "Misty" for June 3, 1960, from 9 pm to 12 m,
(as well as my corsage); and a program for the Commencement Service at NNHS on Sunday, June 5, 1960, at 5 pm.
These are all in one big album with pictures from the 15th, 20th, 25th, 30th, 35th, 40th, and 45th reunions of the Class of 60!
