   Oh, Herbie Darlin', these are fabulous images! Thanks so much!!! I love to watch hummingbirds; I always think I'm imagining the whole scene, because they're just so adorably tiny and totally fascinating!

My heart just ached when I read about you friend's child. I can't even imagine how it would be to lose a child. My prayers are with the entire family.

It was great reading about Arlo Guthrie and "The City of New Orleans". You see, I volunteer at the American Theater in Phoebus, and had the honor of baby sitting Arlo's granddaughter for two days in February. It was wonderful being in the "Green Room" (where the performers stay, hang out, eat, get dressed, etc.) I remember Arlo and his son-in-law "jamming" and singing "The City of New Orleans", and we all joined and had the best time. The Guthrie family is so down to earth and FUN!! If you ever have the chance to see their show, try to attend. At the end of the show they bring his granddaughter on stage, making it 3 generations, and sing "This Land is Your Land"- written and sung by his father Woody Guthrie. I am looking forward to attending to Olivia next year too, when she'll be 5 and the new baby who will be 6 months old next February--if this old lady can handle it.

In Memoriam

Recently the UK removed The Holocaust from its school curriculum because it "offended" the Moslem population which claims it never occurred. This is a frightening portent of the fear that is gripping the world and how easily each country is giving into it.

It is now more than 60 years after the Second World War in Europe ended. This e-mail is being sent as a memorial chain, in memory of the six million Jews, 20 million Russians, 10 million Christians and 1,900 Catholic priests who were murdered, massacred, raped, burned, starved and humiliated with the German and Russia peoples looking the other way! Now, more than ever, with Iran , among others, claiming the Holocaust to be "a myth," it is imperative to make sure the world never forgets.

This e-mail is intended to reach 40 million people worldwide!
Join us and be a link in the memorial chain and help us distribute it around the world....

I had e mailed     John Styles ('68 - of VA) regarding finding these people at the same time I first E mailed you.  (I noticed he had a police uniform on so thought he could help.)
 

He emailed me today!  He found Debbie and Roxy McCall.
 

Debbie lives in SC and Roxy lives in Morganton, NC, about 70 miles from me!  He talked to them both and they told him it was okay to give me their phone numbers....so...I am going to call them.  I can't believe it!!!  I am so excited. 
 

Also,    Dave Spriggs ('64 - of VA) sent me the link to find pictures of the old Stonewall Jackson School.  Loved them. 
 

You guys are the greatest!  Take care.  I'll let you know what happens.

This Newsletter arrived rather late this evening, and I am glad I was working to be able to read it. Thanks for posting Jim Lehrer on the Famous Marine pages.

Your memory serves you well, but it was not a toy bus, unless you consider a full fledged Greyhound Bus a toy.
Jim's father was the manager of a Greyhound Bus Terminal in Texas. While in college, Jim was hired as a Ticket Agent in another bus terminal during the summer months when travel was heavy. He fell in love with buses, and owns quite a collection of memorabilia and an actual bus. If it have it right, he served Greyhound and Trailways before they merged. Apparently they shared a terminal. At any rate, he has the routes memorized, and can call out all the stops as though he was making the public announcement for the departure of a bus.

Carol,

Not having the time at the moment to search the web, I do clearly remembering seeing that Aspartame is or was again under investigation. Most health sites will tell individuals to avoid it. I had a neighbor who would have an immediate migraine if she ingested any Aspartame. I very seldom drink soft drinks, but if I do I make sure it contains no Aspartame. It makes me lethargic and brain fuzzy and good gosh I don't need any less clarity, given the hours my children, thus I, keep.

Well, ahh, after writing that, I quickly went and found this that came out today, I believe, but there seems to be conflicting views. I agree with Mom on this, but some seem to have no ill reactions to the sweetener. So many do, however, that it can't be blamed to individuals being "simple minded" in a response to negative articles coming out. I'm no expert but am aware of negatives it's done to me and others. My faith in the FDA is not at an all time high, and believe in searching for what others consumers have to say. Again EarthClinic. com, Curezone.com and Shirley's Wellness Cafe are to me great sources of health & avoidance tips. Best of luck to your friend! I'm sure I can find more info., if she's interested in a few days.

I love Ashokan Farewell...makes me cry every time I hear it...

Have been busy with company and cooking, cleaning, etc. I am having our choir end-of-year potluck at my house tonight...(we have soloists in the summer or small groups). I fell on the stairs yesterday and my big toe is quite purple and bigger than it was but I can walk...just have to go slow...

ABOUT SUGAR...after many tries at many different programs I decided to try the South Beach Diet in February (at the strong endorsement of several good friends who had lost weight on that program as well as my doctor). They did not have more than 20 pounds to lose...but what the heck...I would try it). At first giving up sugar was the hardest thing to do because EVERYTHING WE BUY IS FULL OF IT...but after learning to buy and prepare whole foods, make my own soups and salad dressings, etc. I found it very liberating. So far I have lost 22 pounds. The bonus is that I feel great, my allergies are even a lot better this year. My husband has lost weight (by default...he eats the same thing I eat...he even "cheats"...) I was discussing sweeteners with the people at the health food store and they endorse saccharin, which has been around a long time. I occasionally use a little in my coffee. The main thing that I like A LOT is that you do not have to go hungry. You do not have to weigh and measure your food or count calories or points or anything like that. You can eat many different foods. You avoid refined sugars, white stuff (bread, pasta, rice and potatoes). Anyway I lost 7 pounds the first week which is UNHEARD OF...for me. When I gave up sugar (and the other above-mentioned things) the weight just started to fall off. Yes I have been exercising, trying to walk two miles a day but I miss a lot of days because there is so much going on...Summer is tough and very short in New England so people try to cram in more fun things and activities...so I may be in a holding pattern for awhile...anyway I thought it might just appeal to someone else and help them as well.

   Thanks, Jean!  I'm glad I do know what takes it off for me, and how I can be guaranteed to feel better.  It's a simple matter of not ingesting sugar and flour.  But first I have to care - and this year, I just really didn't seem to care much about anything, least of all what I ate or how I looked or felt.

SPRING LAKE — Our precious little angel, Barbara Jaylynn “Skeeter” Dumas, 7, of Spring Lake, was called back home by our Heavenly Father on Saturday, June 2, 2007.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, June 7, 2007, at 2:30 p.m. in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Fayetteville by Bishop Joseph Shurtleff. Burial will follow at Fayetteville Memorial Cemetery.

Jaylynn was a first-grader at Manchester Elementary School. She was preceded in death by her brother, Samuel J. Teeples; and a maternal grandfather, Henry Alton Smith.

She is survived by her parents, Brent and Debbie Dumas of the home; three brothers, Jesse, Philip and Michael Teeples; two sisters, Rachael Teeples and Shannee Dumas; a maternal grandmother, Lennie Smith; and her paternal grandparents, Jay and Muriel Dumas. She is also survived by her black Lab, Gracie.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight, June 6, 2007, at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home in Fayetteville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3200 Scotty Hill Road, Fayetteville, NC 28303.

Cost of the picnic will be $10.00 per person, and includes all food and beverages. Newport News Park allows only non-alcoholic beverages to be served.  Checks should be made out to NNHS Class of 1965 and mailed to Dave Arnold, 153 Exmoor Court, Williamsburg, VA 23185 as soon as possible in order that we may get a count for food preparation.
