From Butch Ragland ('63) of CO - 06/02/13 - "Update":

  Hi Carol,
Hope this finds you and
Paul (Harty - Bardolph HS, IL - '61) doing well! You seem to have had a pretty long and rough down period with your health recently and remain in our prayers. I am also glad to hear an old friend,     Joe Wingo ('65 - of NC), is doing well after his recent surgery and want to wish him a continued fast recovery!

In the May 22nd newsletter you asked me how I am doing, so I am sending the attached photo of the old man learning to walk again. I am still awkward with my gait (steps) but, am really feeling great; still losing weight, and my Physical Therapist tells me I am doing pretty good in learning to use the new artificial leg! All in all, I am very fortunate to be alive and enjoying my family.

We celebrated my brother's (
Chuck Ragland - '66 - of VA), son's (Jonathan Ragland) daughter's (Carrie Ragland) and grand daughter's (Charlotte Ragland's) birthdays during May, so it has been a busy and fun month.

I look forward to attending the NNHS Class of 63's 50-year Reunion this fall, which coincides with my birthday on October 5th; and will be the first reunion I have been able to attend due to past scheduling problems.

Please take care of yourself and tell Paul hello!

God Bless you and your family; and thanks again for helping to keep our Typhoon Family together!

WOWZERONI! I'd say you are doing amazingly well! Congratulations, Butch! We are all delighted for you! Thanks so much for this photo!

Although we both still keep having sudden and unexpected coughing spells, we've been officially "well" since May 24, and are venturing out in public once again, so that dumb annoying flu / pneumonia / whatever is perhaps finally behind us at last.

I love your living room - and if my eyes do not deceive me, those three green glass pitchers on the shelf on the wall to your right were hand blown at the Glass Factory in Jamestown - loving reminders of Home and Heritage!

From My #6 Son, Dale Harty, (Hillsboro HS, IL / American School, IL - '02) of MA - 06/02/13, 9:20 AM - "New Baby Girl":

Diana (Lyons Harty - Portsmouth HS, NH / Eastlake HS, CA - '05) is having contractions again and she just threw up! I think it's really really for realsies this time!

Little Dale. Did your mother never tell you that unborn babies delight in playing tricks on their parents? It's their primary source of entertainment. She was due to be born yesterday. Y'all hang in there. Meanwhile, listen carefully and you may just hear tiny peals of girlie giggles!

From My #2 Son, Brent Harty (Hillsboro HS, IL - '90) of TX - 06/02/13 - "Eagle Scout pic":

  There ya go

Thanks, Brent! I didn't have a copy of this picture of you when you made Eagle Scout! Ah, to be sixteen again!

BONUS GREY CROCHET PATTERN:

BONUS JEFFERSON DAVIS RECIPE:

http://www.food.com/recipe/jefferson-davis-pie-248803?layout=desktop - "My aunt clipped this recipe from the newspaper many years ago. I found it among her recipe collection."

FINALLY:

From LadyHawke's Weekly Jokes - 05/12/13:

"A Birthday Gift To Grandson"

When my three-year-old son opened the birthday gift from his grandmother, he discovered a water pistol. He squealed with delight and headed for the nearest sink. I was not so pleased. I turned to Mom and said, "I'm surprised at you. Don't you remember how we used to drive you crazy with water guns?"

Mom smiled and then replied....."Oh, I remember...."

  Ashokan Farewell

Words by Grian MacGregor
Music by Jay Ungar

The sun is sinking low in the sky above Ashokan.
The pines and the willows know soon we will part.
There's a whisper in the wind of promises unspoken,
And a love that will always remain in my heart.

My thoughts will return to the sound of your laughter,
The magic of moving as one,
And a time we'll remember long ever after
The moonlight and music and dancing are done.

Will we climb the hills once more?
Will we walk the woods together?
Will I feel you holding me close once again?
Will every song we've sung stay with us forever?
Will you dance in my dreams or my arms until then?

Under the moon the mountains lie sleeping
Over the lake the stars shine.
They wonder if you and I will be keeping
The magic and music, or leave them behind.
