June Is Bustin' Out All Over

“On this June day the buds in my garden are almost as enchanting
as the open flowers. Things in bud bring, in the heat of a June
noontide, the recollection of the loveliest days of the year -
those days of May when all is suggested, nothing yet fulfilled.”

- Francis King
(b. 1923)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

Ahhh!  The first day of June!

BONUS - - June Is Bustin' Out All Over - Carousel, 1956

Carousel is a musical by Richard Rodgers (music) and Oscar Hammerstein II (book and lyrics) that was adapted from Ferenc Molnár's 1909 play Liliom, transplanting the Budapest setting of Molnár's play to a New England fishing village. The show includes the hit musical numbers If I Loved You, June Is Bustin' Out All Over, and You'll Never Walk Alone. Carousel was innovative for its time, being one of the first musicals to contain a tragic plot.

The original production opened on Broadway on April 19, 1945, and ran for 890 performances. The musical has enjoyed award-winning revivals (particularly the 1994 revival at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre) and has been adapted as a Cinemascope 55 film in 1956 and as a made-for-television special on videotape in 1967. It is particularly well-regarded among musicals by the theatre community, and Richard Rodgers, in his autobiography Musical Stages, said it was his favorite musical. Time magazine named it the best musical of the 20th century.

From - 05/31/14:

A blonde named Babbette found herself in dire trouble. Her business had gone bust and she was in serious financial trouble. She was so desperate that she decided to ask God for help.

She began to pray, "God, please help me. I've lost my business and if I don't get some money, I'm going to lose my house as well. Please let me win the lotto."

Lotto night came and somebody else won it.

Babbette again prayed, "God, please let me win the lotto! I've lost my business, my house and I'm going to lose my car as well."

Lotto night came and Babbette still had no luck.

Once again, she prayed, "My God, why have you forsaken me?? I've lost my business, my house and my car. My children are starving. I don't often ask you for help and I have always been a good servant to you. PLEASE just let me win the lotto this one time so I can get my life back in order."

Suddenly there was a blinding flash of light as the heavens opened and Babbette was confronted by the voice of God Himself: "Babbette, meet Me halfway on this. Buy a ticket."

June Is Bustin' Out All Over

Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II (12 July 1895 - 23 Aug 1960)

Music by Richard Rodgers (28 June 1902 - 30 Dec 1979) for Carousel, 1945

March went out like a lion
A whippin' up the water in the bay
Then April cried and stepped aside,
And along come pretty little May!
May was full of promises
But she didn't keep 'em quickly enough for some
And a crowd of doubtin' Thomas's
Was predictin' that the summer'd never come

But it's comin', by gum,
We can feel it come,
You can feel it in your heart
You can see it in the ground

You can see it in the trees
You can smell it in the breeze

Look around! Look around! Look around!

June is bustin' out all over
All over the meadow and the hill!
Buds're bustin' outa bushes
And the rompin' river pushes
Ev'ry little wheel that wheels beside the mill!

June is bustin' out all over
The feelin' is gettin' so intense,
That the young Virginia creepers
Hev been huggin' the bejeepers
Outa all the mornin' glories on the fence!
Because it's June...

June, June, June
Just because it's June, June, June!

Fresh and alive and gay and young
June is a love song, sweetly song

June is bustin' out all over!
The saplin's are bustin' out with sap!
Love he's found my brother, Junior,
And my sister's even loonier!
And my Ma is gettin' kittenish with Pap!
June in bustin' out all over

To ladies and men are payin' court.
Lotsa ships are kept at anchor
Jest because the captains hanker
Fer the comfort they ken only get in port!

Because it's June... June, June, June
Just because it's June, June, June!

June makes the bay look bright and blue,
Sails gleaming white on sunlit booms.

June is bustin' out all over
The ocean is full of Jacks and Jills,
With her little tail a-swishin
Ev'ry lady fish is wishin'
That a male would come
And grab 'er by the gills!

June is bustin' out all over!
The sheep aren't sheepish anymore!
All the rams that chase the ewe sheep are determined there'll be new sheep
And the ewe-sheep aren't even keepin' score!

On acounta it's June! June, June, June
Just because it's June, June, June!
