05/29/19 - NNHS Newsletter - The Dance

“Please send me your last pair of shoes, worn out with dancing
as you mentioned in your letter, so that I might have something
to press against my heart.”

- Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
(28 Aug 1749 – 22 Mar 1832)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

   I wish I could still dance... Sigh..... What am I saying? I wish I could still walk.

BONUS #1 - The Dance - Garth Brooks

BONUS #2 - The Dance - Tony Arata

BONUS #3 - http://tonyarata.com/dance.htm

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dance_%28Garth_Brooks_song%29:

"The Dance" is a song recorded by country singer Garth Brooks. The song, written by Brooks' friend, Tony Arata, was a key track on his self-titled debut album Garth Brooks and a #1 chart hit. It is considered by many to be Brooks' signature song.

The song is written with a double meaning - both as a love song about the end of a passionate relationship, and a story of someone dying because of something he believes in, after a moment of glory.[original research?]

Here's one of the beautiful places where I have always found special sunset. The beautiful Chesapeake Bay, looking west across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel toward my shipbuilding hometown of Newport News.

T he Dance

Written by Tony Arata and Henry Drysdale-Wood
Recorded by
Garth Brooks (b. 07 Feb 1962), 1988/90

Looking back on the memory of
The dance we shared beneath the stars above
For a moment all the world was right
How could I have known you'd ever say goodbye
And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end, the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance;
I could have missed the pain
But I'd 've had to miss the dance

Holding you I held everything
For a moment wasn't I the king?

But if I'd only known how the king would fall
Hey, who's to say, you know, I might have changed it all
And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end; the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance;
I could have missed the pain
But I'd 've had to miss the dance
Yes, my life is better left to chance;
I could have missed the pain
But I'd 've had to miss the dance
