05/29/11 - NNHS Newsletter - I'll Be Back

All changes, even the most longed for, have their melancholy;
for what we leave behind us is a part of ourselves;
we must die to one life before we can enter another.

-
Anatole France (Jacques Anatole Thibault )
(16 Apr 1844 - 12 Oct 1924)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

I do not know exactly when I'll be disconnected here, or how long it will be until I'm reconnected in Fayetteville, but whenever it is... I'll be back...

BONUS - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9hO25z1Fu8 - I'll Be Back - The Beatles

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I%27ll_Be_Back_%28song%29

"I'll Be Back" is a John Lennon composition[1][2] credited to Lennon/McCartney, and recorded by The Beatles for the soundtrack LP to their film "A Hard Day's Night". This song was not released in the US until Beatles '65 some five months on.

According to music critic Ian MacDonald, John Lennon created the song based on the chords of Del Shannon's "Runaway"[2] which had been a UK hit in April 1961. Author Bill Harry wrote: "He [Lennon] just reworked the chords of the Shannon number and came up with a completely different song".[1]

With its poignant lyric and flamenco style acoustic guitars, "I'll Be Back" possess a tragic air. Unusually for a pop song it oscillates between major and minor keys, appears to have two different bridges and completely lacks a chorus. The fade-out ending is unexpectedly sudden, seeming to arrive half a verse prematurely.[2]...

PAMUNKEY PERILS PARTIALLY PASSED

Grant continued to move his now-massive army across the Pamunkey River in an attempt to maneuver around Lee’s right flank. There was little opposition on this part of the march to Richmond, but that would not long remain the case. Lee, who had also pulled back somewhat south and east, was now at Cold Harbor preparing his lines.

New email is: ______________@_________.___

Thanks much,
Bonnie Loughran Marshall, HHS 65

Thanks so much, Bonnie - we ARE excited to be returning to Fayetteville! I've switched your email addy now - lest I forget!

From Ruth Ann Reece Horace ('67) of FL - 05/28/11 -"Bachelorette":

Please let everyone know that Bentley on the Bachelorette is not what they make him out to be.  I don't usually watch these shows, but Bentley is the son of friends of ours.  His parents and two of his sisters and their families go to church with us.  They are good people and having met Bentley, I can tell you I would let him date my daughter (and I am a very protective mom).  This is another case of TV putting the spin on things to up the ratings and not quite telling the whole story.

This is the article his sister, Brittan, posted on Facebook for us all to read.  She says it is a bunch of bull and having a 700 acre ranch here, she knows bull.

http://www.wetpaint.com/the-bachelorette/articles/bachelorette-spoilers-meet-bentley-williams-the-guy-on-season-7-for-the-wrong-reasons?fb_ref=contentpage&fb_source=profile_multiline

*Spoiler alert* If you want to maintain your Bachelorette Season 7 innocence, move along to some of our other fabulous content.

   WOWZERS! Thanks, Ruthie!

From Bill Hobbs ('66) of Northern VA - 05/27/11 - "Wet Pants":

I THOUGHT THIS WAS A JOKE, IT TURNS OUT TO BE A PRAYER!

If you have faith in prayer it works.

WET PANTS

Come with me to a third grade classroom...... There is a nine-year-old kid sitting at his desk and all of a sudden, there is a puddle between his feet and the front of his pants are wet. He thinks his heart is going to stop because he cannot possibly imagine how this has happened. It's never happened before, and he knows that when the boys find out he will never hear the end of it.. When the girls find out, they'll never speak to him again as long as he lives...

The boy believes his heart is going to stop; he puts his head down and prays this prayer, 'Dear God, this is an emergency! I need help now! Five minutes from now I'm dead meat.'

He looks up from his prayer and here comes the teacher with a look in her eyes that says he has been discovered.

As the teacher is walking toward him, a classmate named Susie is carrying a goldfish bowl that is filled with water.. Susie trips in front of the teacher and inexplicably dumps the bowl of water in the boy's lap.

The boy pretends to be angry, but all the while is saying to himself, 'Thank you, Lord! Thank you, Lord!'

Now all of a sudden, instead of being the object of ridicule, the boy is the object of sympathy.. The teacher rushes him downstairs and gives him gym shorts to put on while his pants dry out. All the other children are on their hands and knees cleaning up around his desk. The sympathy is wonderful. But as life would have it, the ridicule that should have been his has been transferred to someone else - Susie.

She tries to help, but they tell her to get out. You've done enough, you klutz!'

Finally, at the end of the day, as they are waiting for the bus, the boy walks over to Susie and whispers, 'You did that on purpose, didn't you?'

Susie whispers back, 'I wet my pants once too...'

May God help us see the opportunities that are always around us to do good...

Remember.......Just going to church doesn't make you a Christian any more than standing in your garage makes you a car.

Each and every one one of us is going through tough times right now, but God is getting ready to bless you in a way that only He can. Keep the faith.....

This prayer is powerful, and prayer is one of the best gifts we receive. There is no cost but a lot of rewards. Let's continue to pray for one another.

The Prayer:

Heavenly Father,

I ask You to bless my friends, relatives and those that I care deeply for, who are reading this right now. Show them a new revelation of Your love and power, Holy Spirit, I ask You to minister to their spirit at this very moment. Where there is pain, give them Your peace and mercy. Where there is self-doubt, release a renewed confidence through Your grace.. Where there is need, I ask you to fulfill their needs. Bless their homes, families, finances, their goings and their comings... Amen.

(If the Lord lays upon your heart to send this to more than four '4' people, you are truly blessed)

   Thank you, Bill!

From My Husband, Paul Harty (Bardolph HS, IL - '61) of IL - 05/28/11 - "FILM FOUND OF B-29 CREW RESCUED BY SUBMARINE":

This is a perfect story for Memorial Day weekend.

FILM FOUND OF B-29 CREW RESCUED BY SUBMARINE

This is an amazing story.

http://link.brightcove.com/services/player/bcpid34762914001?bctid=672454611001

This is worth watching... about 2.5 mins. An entire crew of a B-29 (12 aviators) was rescued by a US submarine after their plane was shot down in ~1945, 70 miles off the coast of Japan . The entire rescue was filmed in color video but then sat in a guy's closet until now. This is a story from a Denver TV station of one of those rescued aviators to whom the video was delivered. It also shows their transfer to another submarine that is likely headed back to port before the one that accomplished the rescue."
Can you imagine 65 years AFTER your rescue you get to watch it on film?!?!

   MORE WOWZERONI! Thanks again, Dools!

I'll Be Back

Words and Music by John Lennon (09 Oct 1940 – 08 Dec 1980)

Credited to Lennon/McCartney

Recorded by The Beatles, 1964

You know, if you break my heart I'll go
But I'll be back again
'cause I told you once before goodbye
But I came back again

I love you so, oh
I'm the one who wants you
Yes I'm the one who wants you
oh, ho, oh, ho, oh

You could find better things to do
Than to break my heart again
This time I will try to show that I'm
Not trying to pretend

I thought that you would realize
That if I run away from you
that you would want me to
But I got a big surprise
Oh, ho, oh, ho, oh

I want to go, oh
But I hate to leave you
You know I hate to leave
Oh, ho, Oh, ho

You, if you break my heart I'll go
But I'll be back again
