05/28/19 - NNHS Newsletter - Stairway to Heaven
“To different minds, the same world is a hell, and a heaven.”
Dear Friends and Schoolmates,
Ahh - classic Led Zeppelin!
BONUS - Stairway to Heaven - Led Zeppelin - ten minutes and 42 seconds?!?
|"Stairway to Heaven" is a song by the
Led Zeppelin, released in late 1971. It was composed by guitarist
Jimmy Page and vocalist
Robert Plant for the band's untitled fourth studio album (usually
referred to as
Led Zeppelin IV). The song, running eight minutes and two
seconds, is composed of several sections, which increase in tempo and
volume as the song progresses. The song begins as a slow acoustic-based
song accompanied by recorders before electric instrumentation is
introduced. The final section is a high-tempo
rock section highlighted by an intricate guitar solo by Page.
The song, often considered one of the greatest rock songs of all-time, was voted #3 in 2000 by VH1 on its list of the 100 Greatest Rock Songs, and was placed at number 31 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. It was the most requested song on FM radio stations in the United States in the 1970s, despite never having been officially released as a single there. In November 2007, through download sales promoting Led Zeppelin's Mothership release, "Stairway to Heaven" hit #37 on the UK Singles Chart...

From My Friend, Susan, of NC -05/27/15:
becomes a living and an attractive virtue when it is regarded not only
as a willingness to die manfully, but also as a determination to live
decently. A moral coward is one who is afraid to do what he thinks is
right because others will disapprove or laugh. Remember that all men
have their fears, but those who face their fears with dignity have
courage as well.”
Thomas S. Monson,
Thanks so much, Susan!

From Jimmy Dick ('65) of FL - 05/28/19, 5:11 AM:
Good morning on a Tuesday. But wait, it
feels like Monday since Monday was a special holiday. So if we
have a tendency to be blue on Monday we can't be so, buck up,
rise and shine and get on with a shortened work week. And now
that summertime is unofficially here and the days are getting
very long indeed, we have much to look forward to again in just
a few days.
But remember, work is what you make of it, just like the rest of your life and what you make of it is up to you. So, let His spirit shine bright within us as we maneuver the secular world, knowing that every little ray of sunshine we cast as we go does indeed rub off on others. We don't always know who or when, but it does.
Smile, be blessed, say a prayer and show what we are made of and who made us that way. It will amaze us how far that will take us. Have a great day and week.
Thank you, Jimmy!

Stairway to Heaven
Composed by guitarist Jimmy Page (b. 09 Jan 1944) and vocalist Robert Plant (b. 20 Aug1948)
Recorded by Led Zeppelin, 1971
There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to heaven.
When she gets there she knows, if the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for.
Ooh, ooh, and she's buying a stairway to heaven.
There's a sign on the wall but she wants to be sure
'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings.
In a tree by the brook, there's a songbird who sings,
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven.
Ooh, it makes me wonder,
Ooh, it makes me wonder.
There's a feeling I get when I look to the west,
And my spirit is crying for leaving.
In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees,
And the voices of those who stand looking.
Ooh, it makes me wonder,
Ooh, it really makes me wonder.
And it's whispered that soon, if we all call the tune,
Then the piper will lead us to reason.
And a new day will dawn for those who stand long,
And the forests will echo with laughter.
If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now,
It's just a spring clean for the May queen.
Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on.
And it makes me wonder.
Your head is humming and it won't go, in case you don't know,
The piper's calling you to join him,
Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow, and did you know
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind?
And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our soul.
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold.
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last.
When all are one and one is all
To be a rock and not to roll.
And she's buying a stairway to heaven.
