Dear Friends and Schoolmates,
Here's a 1957 Golden Oldie for today.
BONUS - Oh Boy! - Buddy Holly
|"Oh, Boy!" was written by Sonny West, Bill Tilghman and Norman Petty. The song was originally recorded by Sonny West in the late 1950s but failed to achieve any commercial success. It was later recorded by Buddy Holly and the Crickets between June 29 and July 1 in 1957, at Petty Studios in Clovis, New Mexico, with Holly singing lead vocals and The Picks providing backing vocals. The song is in an A-A-B-A format with a 12-bar blues verse and an 8-bar bridge. (Holly also covered another West song, "Rave On".)...|

05/24/18 - "Update on request made in 2005":
I want to tell you how appreciative I am on what you do on this site! I sent you a request 13 years ago with picture of friends I had when I attended John W. Daniel School from 1950-1953 (1st through 3rd grades). In April 2018 I saw a private message in Facebook from Julia’s son who saw my post on your John W. Daniel School page. He said he was pretty sure his mother was one of my friends! And she is! Her name is Julia McDonald Robinette and she said she graduated from Newport News High School in 1962. We have corresponded and she sent me the attached photo which had to be Mrs. Savin’s 3rd grade class. I am second on right on front row and my friend Betty Smith Carey is sitting to the left of me (looking at the picture). Our friend Joan (whom we have not located yet) is sitting on the end of the front row. The picture is hazy and I cannot pick Julia out – and she said she couldn’t either.
Ruth Savin’s Third Grade Class,
1953 - Class of 1962
Betty and I corresponded until she passed away on August 31, 2009. She graduated from Warwick High School.
I thought you would like to know the help you have contributed to in reuniting old friends! Thank you very much and God Bless you!

OH, WOW! Thank you so much, June!No matter how hard I tried, I was unable to locate a class photo of Julia in the '60, '61, or '62 Anchors, but I've added this entire account to our Archive on the John W. Daniel page:
Congratulations on your graduation from high school, Tom! Wish I could
have been able to be there, too. I'm very proud of you!
WOWZERS! Thank you, Brent! Congratulations, Tom!

From the Incomparable Charis Bean Duke (Governor Thomas Johnson HS, MD - '85) of PA - 05/24/18:
This petunia is growing out
of my neighbor’s brick wall. She has no garden or yard. There are no
pink petunias on my block. I can’t fathom how a petunia seed got lodged
in the cracks between the bricks. And yet, there it is, and it is
So when life sticks you in a crack, be like this petunia. Bloom anyway.
WOWZERS! Thank you, Charis!

Turn off your t.v.
Turn off your cell phone.
Power down your computer.
Turn off your mind chatter.
Sit still and connect to the divine.
Do this for at least ten minutes a day.
You'll be surprised at the guidance that comes through.
--A student of life
Thank you, Shari!
