Dear Friends and Schoolmates,
Today is a Christian holiday (though not necessarily observed by all Christians), celebrated on the 40th day after Easter Sunday. It marks the day when Jesus Christ ascended up into Heaven, 40 days after His resurrection from the dead. We are celebrating it together here today as the big Typhoon family that we are.

we safeguard (the heavenly virtue of freedom), when we honor it, when we
protect it, we will walk with Washington, we will pray with patriots,
and we shall have peace on earth, good will to men.”
Thomas S. Monson
Thanks so much, Susan!
Thank you so much, Laura! I'm not sure if you can remember, but this was one of
my mama's, the late Maxine Frix Buckley (John Marshall HS - '25) (19 May 1908 - 15 Feb 1999) favorite quotations as well. She not only repeated it often, she incorporated it into her daily life!
“That's the way Stravinsky was. Bup, bup, bup, bup. The poor guy's dead
now. Play it legato.”

BONUS ASCENSION DAY PICNIC IDEA SUGGESTIONS:
http://catholiccuisine.blogspot.com/2008/04/feast-of-ascension.html - Feast of the Ascension- "...What would the menu for an Ascension picnic include? There is not a set menu, but it is traditional to eat a bird of some sort (pigeon, pheasant, duck) since Jesus "flew" to heaven. In our culture chicken or turkey might be more common and available even though they are not know for their flight abilities. Also any fruits as they represent Christ, the first fruit of all men. The Italians specifically brought beans and grapes to church on the feast of the Ascension. The grapes and beans were supposed to be used as a feast for the dead in heaven..."

O Christ, Thou Hast Ascended
Music - Greenland
Edward H. Bickersteth, Jr.,
(25 Jan 1825 -16 May 1906)
O Christ, thou hast ascended
triumphantly on high,
by cherub guards attended
and armies of the sky:
let earth tell forth the story:
our very flesh and bone,
Emmanuel, in glory,
ascends his Father's throne.
Heaven's gates unfold above thee,
but canst thou, Lord, forget
the little band who love thee
and gaze from Olivet?
Nay, on thy breast engraven
thou bearest every name,
our Priest in earth and heaven
eternally the same.
There, there thou standest pleading
the virtue of thy blood,
for sinners interceding,
our Advocate with God;
and every changeful fashion
of our brief joys and cares
finds thought in thy compassion
and echo in thy prayers.
O for the priceless merit
of thy redeeming cross!
Vouchsafe thy sevenfold Spirit
and turn to gain our loss;
till we by strong endeavor
in heart and mind ascend,
and dwell with thee for ever
in glories without end.
