Hilda Ann Wright Johnson
(22 Oct 1945 - 21 May 2014)

Newport News High School Class of 1964

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

We have more sad news this Saturday.
Hilda Wright Johnson, Class of 1964, wife of Ed Johnson ('64) of TN, sister of Davis Wright ('61) of VA and Pauline Wright Perry ('67) of TN, and sister-in-law of Tricia Nettles Wright (Hampton HS - '60) and   Eddie Perry ('65) of TN, passed away in Newport News on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at the age of 68.

Her mother,   Hilda Watts Wright, preceded her in death just days ago.

From Sandi Bateman Chestnut ('65) of VA - 05/21/14, 10:51 PM - "Sad news - Again":

Carol,

Hope this gets through to you okay.   You might have already heard about this from Ed Perry, but got word earlier today from mutual friends,  that Hilda Wright Johnson passed away this morning.  I know she'd had some health problems over the years and just lost her mother earlier this month.  My friends are members of First Baptist Church, Ocala, FL, where one of them is the Youth Pastor.  Below is what was sent to the church members.  I'm sure a formal obituary will follow in the next day or two.

Mrs. Hilda Johnson, wife of our Pastor Emeritus, Dr. Ed Johnson, passed away peacefully but suddenly this morning, May 21, 2014, while in Newport News, Virginia, visiting family.

Mrs. Johnson exuded grace, class, and had a boundless love for our Lord and for people. We rejoice that she is now free from her physical limitations and struggles, but will markedly miss her sweet presence and encouraging smile.

We ask for prayers for Dr. Johnson, their son, Walter, daughter-in-law, Margie, and for their grandchildren: Sara, Zachary, and Sam.

Funeral services are scheduled for May 27th, 11:00AM at FBC. Visitation is 10:00AM.

Thanks for everything you do to keep all of us NNHS alumni informed.  You are the best!

Love,
Sandi

Oh, Sandi, I am completely shocked to hear this! Thank you so much for letting me know.

  From Eddie Perry ('65) of TN - 05/22/14, 9:34 PM; 05/23/14, 3:58 PM - "  Hilda Ann Wright Johnson":

Dear Carol,

It is with heavy heart that I inform you of the passing of Hilda Ann Wright Johnson ('64).  She was the wife of Rev. Ed Johnson ('64), and sister of Davis Wright ('61) and Pauline Wright Perry's ('67). Her funeral will be in Ocala, FL. on Tues, May 27 at the First Baptist Church Ocala with her husband, Ed, performing the funeral proceedings for the celebration of her life. As soon as the Ocala newspaper (The Star Banner) prints her obit I will let you know.

Thanks again for all that you do.

Eddie Perry ('65)

Eddie, I am still stunned by this sad news! I didn't realize Hilda was ill. Please extend my deepest sympathies to Pauline and the rest of the family. This happening so soon after her mother's death is almost too much to bear. Remember always that you are not alone, and the Lord will support you through this latest trial...

Carol,

The obituary should be in the Ocala Star Banner tomorrow. We believe Hilda Ann actual passed away do to heart failure even though she was taking chemo for cancer. She had had a double mastectomy and was taking the chemo as a protective measure...

Eddie

   Thank you again, Eddie.

We will really miss her on earth, but the good Lord Jesus is showing her off telling everyone this is what a truly Christian person is to be. Her crown is full of wonderful gems as she certainly was one of the rarest gems here on earth. May God bless Ed and this family in the days going forward.

Blessed Assurance

Lyrics by Fanny J. Crosby (24 Mar 1820 - 12 Feb 1915). 1873
Music by Phoebe P. Knapp (09 Mar1839 - 10 July1908), 1873

Blessèd assurance, Jesus is mine!
O what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.

Refrain

This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior, all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior, all the day long.

Perfect submission, perfect delight,
Visions of rapture now burst on my sight;
Angels descending bring from above
Echoes of mercy, whispers of love.

Refrain

Perfect submission, all is at rest
I in my Savior am happy and blest,
Watching and waiting, looking above,
Filled with His goodness, lost in His love.

Refrain
