05/17/15 - NNHS Newsletter - True Faith

“Faith isn't the ability to believe long and far into the misty future.
It's simply taking God at His Word and taking the next step.”

Joni Eareckson Tada
(b. 15 Oct 1949)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

I'll admit it. The title intrigued me. The lyrics were not exactly what I was expecting, but the strange 1987 video, directed by Philippe Decouflé, was an award winner.

BONUS - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfI1S0PKJR8 - True Faith - New Order, 1987

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/True_Faith_%28song%29:

"True Faith" is a song by New Order, produced by Stephen Hague. It was the first New Order single since their debut Ceremony to be issued in the UK as two separate 12" singles. The second 12" single features two remixes of "True Faith" by Shep Pettibone. Both versions of the 12" (and also the edited 7") include the song "1963". "True Faith" is one of New Order's most popular songs.

The single peaked at no. 4 in the United Kingdom on its original release in 1987. "True Faith" became New Order's first single to chart in the Hot 100 and would also go on to be a top 40 hit in the United States, peaking at no. 32.

A "True Faith" remix 12" single and CD single were released in 1994, and another "True Faith" remix 12" single and CD single were released in 2001. The 1994 remix charted in the UK at no. 9...

As is the case for many New Order songs of this period, the words in the title do not appear anywhere in the lyrics...

   Thanks so much, Susan!

From Linda Lane Lane ('64) of VA - 05/16/15:

Carol,

I thought I had escaped the computer problem until I realized I hadn't heard from you since May 1. It could be because I am using my I pad. Miss you.

Linda Lane Lane

Thanks, Linda-Linda! Your computer problems may have been resolved, but mine are in high gear! Not only have my network uploadings inexplicably required ten times the usual time since April 9, but the announcements - always a piece of work - now have their own happy trick, as reported by both   Steve Hochman ('60) of VA and   Judy Phillips Allen ('66) of VA:

The included individual Newsletter links - which appear perfectly normal to me in every respect - simply do not work!

My frustration is such that I have not sent any announcements since May 1. Your safest bet is ever and always just to check the Newsletter link each day to see what's new - much as you would if you were reading the national and international news online. They send no announcements at all, but you may well assume something has happened somewhere in the world, and has been reported, and you may just as rightly assume I have been posting daily Newsletters.

   Here they are now:

FINALLY:

From www.ajokeaday.com - 05/16/15:

The top toothbrush salesman at the company was asked by his boss how he managed to sell so many brushes.

He replied, "It's easy," and he pulled out his card table, setting his display of brushes on top. "I lay the brushes out like this, and then I put out some potato chips and dip to draw in the customers."

He laid out his chips and dip.

His boss said, "That's a very innovative approach," and took one of the chips, dipped it, and stuck it in his mouth.

"Yuck, this tastes terrible!" his boss yelled.

The salesman replied, "IT IS! Want to buy a toothbrush?"

True Faith (The Morning Sun)

- New Order,1987

I feel so extraordinary
Something's got a hold on me
I get this feeling I'm in motion
A sudden sense of liberty
I don't care 'cause I'm not there
And I don't care if I'm here tomorrow
Again and again I've taken too much
Of the things that cost you too much
I used to think that the day would never come
I'd see delight in the shade of the morning sun
My morning sun is the drug that brings me near
To the childhood I lost, replaced by fear
I used to think that the day would never come
That my life would depend on the morning sun...

When I was a very small boy,
Very small boys talked to me
Now that we've grown up together
They're afraid of what they see
That's the price that we all pay
And the value of destiny comes to nothing
I can't tell you where we're going
I guess there was just no way of knowing
I used to think that the day would never come
I'd see delight in the shade of the morning sun
My morning sun is the drug that brings me near
To the childhood I lost, replaced by fear
I used to think that the day would never come
That my life would depend on the morning sun...

I feel so extraordinary
Something's got a hold on me
I get this feeling I'm in motion
A sudden sense of liberty
The chances are we've gone too far
You took my time and you took my money
Now I fear you've left me standing
In a world that's so demanding
I used to think that the day would never come
I'd see delight in the shade of the morning sun
My morning sun is the drug that brings me near
To the childhood I lost, replaced by fear
I used to think that the day would never come
That my life would depend on the morning sun...
