Kentucky Rain

"The best thing one can do when it's raining is to let it rain."

- Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
(27 Feb 1807 - 24 Mar 1882)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

Well, it's not raining here, and I'm not in Kentucky (it's not raining there, either), but I don't feel up to finding a new theme for today, and I've always had a soft  spot in my heart for this song anyway, so here we go again!

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kentucky_Rain:

"Kentucky Rain" was a 1970 hit song for Elvis Presley. Featuring then-unknown pianist Ronnie Milsap and written by Eddie Rabbitt and Dick Heard, the single peaked at number 16 on the pop charts.

Released as a single on January 29, 1970, "Kentucky Rain" was not included on an album until the compilation package Worldwide 50 Gold Award Hits Vol. 1 (LPM-6401); while the track does appear on the 2000 re-release of From Elvis in Memphis, it was not included on the original 1969 album. During Elvis' February 1970 engagement he performed this at every show, introducing it as a new song "out about a week". Live versions are available on the box sets Elvis Aaron Presley and Live in Las Vegas.

This song was played exclusively every home game pregame at Cleveland Browns Stadium when University of Kentucky quarterback Tim Couch played for the Browns from 1999-2003.

     From Me ('65) of IL - 05/13/10 - "Sixty-Nine-Years Ago Today":

During World War II, this image was taken of my first cousin   Clarke's (Booth - Wakefield HS - '57 - of FL) Fifth Birthday Party, and sent overseas to       my daddy, the late Robert Buckley (John Marshall HS - '25)  (19 Oct 1907 - 25 Apr 1960) The smiling, happy, chubby children were in such contrast to the poor, sad starving children of Europe, that the men passed the image around and around the camp. So touched were these strong soldiers by the sight that often tears flowed freely.  More copies were requested and sent.  They, too, soon became frayed with wear.

I thought you'd like to see the picture which made such an impact on these brave soldiers of Virginia's 29th Division.

FINALLY:

From www.ajokeaday.com - 05/12/13:

Her husband had been slipping in and out of a coma for several months yet she stayed by his bedside every single day. When he came to, he motioned for her to come nearer.

As she sat by him, he said, "You know what? You have been with me all through the bad times. When I got fired, you were there to support me. When my business fell, you were there. When I got shot, you were by my side. When we lost the house, you gave me support. When my health started failing, you were still by my side. Well, now that I think about it, I think you bring me bad luck!"

Kentucky Rain

Words and Music by Eddie Rabbitt (27 Nov 1941 - 7 May 1998) and Dick Heard, 1970

(Elvis Presley)
(8 Jan 1935 - 16 Aug 1977)

 Seven lonely days
And a dozen towns ago
I reached out one night
And you were gone
Don't know why you'd run
What you're running to or from
All I know, is I want to bring you home

So I'm walkin' in the rain
Thumbin' for a ride
On this lonely, Kentucky backroad
I've loved you much too long
My love's too strong
To let you go, never knowing
What went wrong

Kentucky rain keeps pourin' down
And up ahead's another town
That I'll go walkin' thru
With the rain in my shoes
(rain in my shoes)
Searchin' for you
In the cold Kentucky rain
In the cold Kentucky rain

Showed your photographs
To some old, gray bearded men
Sitting on a bench
Outside a general store
They said, "Yes, she's been here"
But their memory wasn't clear
"Was it yesterday?
No wait, the day before."

Finally got a ride
With a preacher man who asked,
"Where you bound on such a cold, dark afternoon?"
As we drove on thru the rain
As he listened I explained
And he left me with a prayer
That I'd find you

Kentucky rain keeps pourin' down
And up ahead's another town
That I'll go walkin' thru
With the rain in my shoes
(rain in my shoes)
Searchin' for you
In the cold Kentucky rain
In the cold Kentucky rain

In the cold Kentucky rain
In the cold Kentucky rain
In the cold Kentucky rain
