05/09/13 - NNHS Newsletter - Hold Me Tight

“Millions and millions of years would still not give me
half enough time to describe that tiny instant of all eternity
when you put your arms around me and I put my arms around you.

- Jacques Prévert
(04 Feb 1900 - 11 Apr 1977)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

We haven't had any Beatles' songs lately.....

BONUS - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hf3yL7Gixvg - Hold Me Tight - The Beatles, 1963

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hold_Me_Tight:

It was first recorded during the Please Please Me album session, but not selected for inclusion[1] and re-recorded for their second album. It was the first of only two occasions when a song title was held over from one Beatles album to appear on the next, "Wait" (left off Help! then included on Rubber Soul) being the other.[2]

"Hold Me Tight" was composed principally by McCartney in 1961, and was part of The Beatles stage act until 1963.[3][4] In their best-selling The Beatles: An Illustrated Record, Roy Carr and Tony Tyler call it the album's poorest track, saying it "fails because McCartney's vision of the complete tune obviously sagged somewhat, and his distressingly out-of-tune singing became quite embarrassing after only a few bars."[5]

Indeed, both Paul McCartney and John Lennon had, at one time or another, shared their distaste for the song, and in a 1980s interview with Mark Lewisohn in The Beatles Recording Sessions, McCartney says, "I can't remember much about that one. Certain songs were just 'work' songs, you haven't got much memory of them.

From Frances Heath Scott ('62) of VA - 05/08/13, 2:19 PM - "Another update!":

Dear Carol,

Would you believe,
JoAnn (Scott Fowler - '58) and   Bobby (Fowler) have just left my house ? (Here for reunion.) Of course, you KNOW what I asked and both began laughing.      Tom (Scott - Class of 1961) and I dated for four years and were married for 41 years, before I lost him in 2010. During all that time, I always said '55 for Bobby's class and nothing was ever said. (I guess no one ever noticed.) You are absolutely correct and I am absolutely incorrect.......Bobby graduated in 1956. Sorry I caused you all that extra computer work, as if you needed it, and my apologies to Joe!

We should not question our computer whiz.....even if it is family! At least I had JoAnn's class correct!

Thanks, Fran!   That is totally hysterical! I just couldn't seem (no matter how hard I tried!) to make all the pieces fit!

From Phil Hammond ('64) of FL - 05/08/13 - "The Players Championship 2013":

Hi Carol,

This is the main event in Jacksonville for golfers and I love volunteering. I also get to play the course this summer for my long hours standing and watching. This year I will be a marshal on the first hole. I will be located at the T box on Thursday, Friday at the green and Sat-Sunday on the fairways. My job is to keep the public outside of the ropes and quiet. They also cannot take pictures. So look for me with my new red golf shoes.

Phil

Sylvia and Phil Hammond     Tiger  Woods

WOWZERONI - SO COOL! It's a well known fact that what I don't know about golf would fill even more volumes than what I don't know about Florida history, but even I can recognize Tiger Woods! You and Sylvia have fun, Phil - and thanks for sharing these images with us!

From My Friend, Melanie, of TX - 05/07/13 - "FAT FLUSH WATER":

  FAT FLUSH WATER

You should drink at least three 8-oz. glasses per day. They say the longer it sits, the better it tastes. You can eat them as well but they are intended as flavoring and still work, so that is a personal choice. The Vitamin C turns fat into fuel, the tangerine increases your sensitivity to insulin, and the cucumber makes you feel full. Try it for 10 days and see what you think!

Ingredients per 8-oz. serving

Water
1 slice grapefruit
1 tangerine
½ cucumber, sliced
2 peppermint leaves
Ice – as much as you like

Directions

Wash grapefruit, tangerine cucumber and peppermint leaves. Slice cucumber, grapefruit and tangerine (or peel). Combine all ingredients (fruits, vegetables, 8 oz water, and ice) into a large pitcher.

Stir & Enjoy!

OOH - and beautiful too! Thanks, Melanie! A dozen years ago I had a pitcher just like this one and mint growing all over my yard.....

OH - quick thought: if you are taking blood pressure medication, check before eating (or drinking!) grapefruit. It's generally a no-no!

From My Friend, Chuck (Hillsboro HS, IL - '84), of IL - 05/08/13 - "Admit It...":

Hold Me Tight

Written principally by Paul McCartney (credited to McCartney/Lennon)

Recorded by The Beatles, 1963

It feels so right now, hold me tight,
Tell me I'm the only one,
And then I might,
Never be the lonely one.
So hold me tight, to-night, to-night,
It's you, you you you - oo-oo - oo-oo.

Hold me tight,
Let me go on loving you,
To-night to-night,
Making love to only you,
So hold me tight, to-night, to-night,
It's you, you you you - oo-oo - oo-oo.

Don't know what it means to hold you tight,
Being here alone tonight with you,
It feels so right now, feels so right now.
