Dear Friends and Schoolmates,   

   I was saddened to read this obituary in this morning's Daily Press. 


  Michael James 'Kitis' Sofikitis

  NEW YORK, N.Y. - Michael James 'Kitis' Sofikitis, 61, died Tuesday, May 3, 2005, at NYU Medical Center in New York City after a valiant battle with brain cancer. Born in Dade Co., Fla., he had been a Peninsula resident most of his life. Michael 'Kitis' was the owner of Denbigh Auto Sales since 1979. He was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard. He served on the Board of Directors of The Virginia Peninsula Boys & Girls Club and on The Board of Directors of the Greater Hampton Roads Better Business Bureau. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Helen Sofikitis. He is survived by his beloved wife, Robin Tyburski Sofikitis of Yorktown; his sisters, Katherine Sofikitis of Newport News and Angeline Kazakis of New Jersey. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to a very special group on staff at NYU Medical Center and the entire staff of Eastgate Tower, Manhattan, N.Y., for their constant care and support. Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 6, at Holy Tabernacle Church of Deliverance (next door to Denbigh Auto Sales), 14742 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA 23608, by the Rev. Kermit D. Jones. The family will receive friends following the service. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Michael's memory to The Brain Tumor Society, 124 Watertown St., Suite 3H, Watertown, MA 02472, in honor of Dr. Michael L. Gruber. Arrangements by Weymouth Funeral Home, 12746 Nettles Drive, Newport News, VA 23606.
