He retired after 34 years of service from Bell Atlantic in Maryland as a Management Supervisor in Communications. In retirement Elwood was free to enjoy golf, his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, in no particular order. There was a last wave, an "I love you", several winks, a couple of smiles, and a simple prayer from him. Those last moments, and a full life preceding them should be more than enough for anyone - and it was.

Peninsula Funeral Home will be handling the funeral arrangements. A graveside service will be held at Peninsula Memorial Park on Monday, May 4th at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Garry Livermon officiating.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to , Tidewater, 420 North Center Drive, Building 11 Suite 143, Norfolk, VA 23502. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at

Amazing Grace

Words by John Newton, 1779
(24 July 1725 21 Dec 1807)

 Amazing grace! (how sweet the sound)
That sav'd a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.

'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears reliev'd;
How precious did that grace appear,
The hour I first believ'd!

Thro' many dangers, toils and snares,
I have already come;
'Tis grace has brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.

The Lord has promis'd good to me,
His word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be,
As long as life endures.

Yes, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease;
I shall possess, within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.

The earth shall soon dissolve like snow,
The sun forbear to shine;
But God, who call'd me here below,
Will be forever mine.
