Nelson J. Groom Sr.
(d. 28 Apr 2009)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

 We have more sad news to report.
 Nelson Groom, husband of    Faith Strickland Groom ('64) of VA, passed away suddenly at home in Gloucester on Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at the age of 67.

       From Dave Spriggs ('64) of VA - 04/30/09 - "Death of Nelson Groom, Sr.":

Carol,

By now you may have seen the small DN in the DP.....

  Faith (Strickland Groom - '64 - of VA) called me this morning to tell me what had happened. It was a heart attack at home. She found him in the bedroom.

Understandably, she is deeply in grief, but family and church are with her.

She asked me to call the other members of the reunion committee to tell them.....

She said a larger obit with service and interment details would appear soon.....

Dave

   Oh, NO!!!  No, David, I'd missed this, so thanks so much for letting me know.  If you talk to Faith again, please pass along my deepest condolences.  This was a real shocker.

How Can I Keep From Singing?

Words and Music by Robert Wadsworth Lowry, 1860
(12 Mar 1826 - 25 Nov 1899)

My life flows on in endless song;
Above earth’s lamentation
I hear the sweet though far off hymn
That hails a new creation:
Through all the tumult and the strife
I hear the music ringing;
It finds an echo in my soul—
How can I keep from singing?

What though my joys and comforts die?
The Lord my Savior liveth;
What though the darkness gather round!
Songs in the night He giveth:
No storm can shake my inmost calm
While to that refuge clinging;
Since Christ is Lord of Heav’n and earth,
How can I keep from singing?

I lift mine eyes; the cloud grows thin;
I see the blue above it;
And day by day this pathway smoothes
Since first I learned to love it:
The peace of Christ makes fresh my heart,
A fountain ever springing:
All things are mine since I am His—
How can I keep from singing?
