He Stopped Loving Her Today

“... See there's this place in me where your fingerprints
still rest, your kisses still linger, and your whispers softly echo.
It's the place where a part of you will forever be a part of me
.

- Gretchen Kemp
(b. 08 Dec 1909)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

Y'all know what a sucker I am for sad songs!

BONUS - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1R2F9f2Cl6Y - He Stopped Loving Her Today - George Jones on The Ronnie Prophet Show, July 1, 1980

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/He_Stopped_Loving_Her_Today:

"He Stopped Loving Her Today" is a song by country music artist George Jones that has been named in several surveys as the greatest country song of all time.[1] It was a single on the album I Am What I Am. Released in 1980, the song was Jones's first No. 1 single in six years. The melancholy song was written by Bobby Braddock and Curly Putman.

It is about a man who was betrayed by his lover. Despite her actions (and her comments that he would soon forget about her), he never stopped loving her—the day he stopped loving her would be the day he died (however, she did attend his funeral).

Jones credits the song with reviving his flagging career, stating that "a four-decade career had been salvaged by a three-minute song." Jones earned the Grammy Award for Best Male Country Vocal Performance in 1980. The Academy of Country Music awarded the song Single of the Year and Song of the Year in 1980. It also became the Country Music Association's Song of the Year in both 1980 and 1981. This was the second time that the same song won the honor two years in a row. (The first instance was the song "Easy Loving", sung by Freddie Hart.)[citation needed]

HEALTH ALERT:

If I have seemed more than a little distracted lately, it's because in addition to Stage 3 Renal Failure,         my husband, Paul (Harty - Bardolph HS, IL - '61 - of NC) developed yet another case of cellulitis on his right leg three weeks ago, due to the severe edema in both legs from the knees down.  It feels as if we've spent the entire month at the physician's office and picking up round after round of medications. We'll be going back there again tomorrow.  Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

   Thanks!

FINALLY:
From www.ajokeaday.com - 04/28/14:

Joe had asked Bob to help him out with the deck after work, so Bob just went straight over to Joe's place. When they got to the door, Joe went straight to his wife, gave her a hug and told her how beautiful she was and how much he had missed her at work. When it was time for supper, he complimented his wife on her cooking, kissed her and told her how much he loved her.

Once they were working on the deck, Bob told Joe that he was surprised that he fussed so much over his wife. Joe said that he'd started this about six months ago; it had revived their marriage, and things couldn't be better. Bob thought he'd give it a go. When he got home, he gave his wife a massive hug, kissed her and told her that he loved her. His wife burst into tears.

Bob was confused and asked why she was crying. She said, "This is the worst day of my life. First, little Billy fell off his bike and twisted his ankle. Then, the washing machine broke and flooded the basement. And now, you come home drunk!"

He Stopped Loving Her Today

Words and Music by Bobby Braddock (b. 05 Aug 1940) and Curly Putman (b. 20 Nov 1930)

Recorded by George Jones (12 Sept 1931– 26 Apr 2013), 1980

He said I'll love you 'til I die
She told him you'll forget in time
As the years went slowly by
She still preyed upon his mind

He kept her picture on his wall
Went half crazy now and then
He still loved her through it all
Hoping she'd come back again

Kept some letters by his bed
Dated 1962
He had underlined in red
Every single I love you

I went to see him just today
Oh but I didn't see no tears
All dressed up to go away
First time I'd seen him smile in years

(Chorus)
He stopped loving her today
They placed a wreath upon his door
And soon they'll carry him away
He stopped loving her today

(Spoken)
You know she came to see him one last time
Oh, and we all wondered if she would
And it kept running through my mind
This time he's over her for good

(Repeat Chorus)
