Let It Be

“Though no one can go back and make a brand new start,
anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending.

- Carl Bard
(1907-1978)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

When a song pops into my head and refuses to leave, more often than not it is the melody.  Today's Newsletter's theme, however, came from an endless repetition of the title words swirling through my mind.  I think it must be a message of some sort.  Maybe we all need to lighten up a bit.....

HEALTH UPDATES:

1.   Connie Bloxom Thompson ('66) of MD:

     From Me ('65) of NC - 04/28/08:

I spoke with Connie on the phone this morning. She had several thoughts she wanted me to pass on to y'all. I hope I express them as she would.

First, she's very appreciative of all your prayers.

Second, she's grateful for your generous donations.  Although the money received is still only about half of what is needed, she wants you all to know it's safe in the bank, awaiting the time to be used, and is not being diverted to other uses.

Third, she wants you to know that she experienced one glorious, golden day in the sunny great outdoors with dear friends recently!  As she's been homebound for a very long time now, this was indeed a great blessing to her.

Fourth, the bad news is - she awoke Sunday morning at 3:00 AM in excruciating pain, because she somehow broke two more vertebra - the L1 and L2.  Because of this, her eye surgery will have to be postponed for at least three more months until those fracture can heal.  She has not able to use her wonderful scooter chair for several months now, due to a broken coccyx which has still not healed sufficiently.

Fifth, as a great many of her problems stem from extreme osteoporosis, she wants me to remind you all to take care of your bodies so that they can take care of you.  She thought she was doing all she could herself in this regard, but it attacked her anyway.  As this is often genetic, we both hope that you chose your parents well.....

From Judy Phillips Allen ('66) of VA - 04/23/08 - "OUR POLICE OFFICERS":

I had not seen this.  Maybe you haven't either.
It is something to think about.

This is pretty nice.

OUR HERO POLICE OFFICERS RISK THEIR LIVES EVERY DAY TO PROTECT AND SERVE US. AND THEY ARE SUBJECTED TO STRESSES, PRESSURES, AND DANGERS THAT FEW OF US COULD EVEN IMAGINE.

THEY ARE FATHERS, BROTHERS, SON'S, UNCLES.....

THEY ARE MOTHERS, SISTERS, DAUGHTER'S, AUNT'S.....

YOU GO TO WORK IN A SUIT AND TIE AND CARRY A BRIEF CASE.....
THEY GO TO WORK WITH A BULLET PROOF VEST , PEPPER SPRAY, AND GLOCKS STRAPPED TO THEIR WAIST.....

YOU WORK AT A DESK WITH A NICE COMFORTABLE CHAIR WITH A CORNER WINDOW ON THE 5TH FLOOR....
THEIR OFFICE HAS 4 WHEELS,4 DOORS, LIGHTS AND SIRENS....

POLICE OFFICERS ARE HUMAN JUST LIKE THE REST OF US...THEY HAVE FAMILIES THEY COME HOME TO AND CHILDREN WAITING FOR THEM AT THE DOOR....

WHEN THE WEATHER IS AWFUL AND YOU STAY INSIDE DRINKING COFFEE OR HOT COCOA....
THEY ARE OUT THERE PROTECTING OTHERS LIVES AND HELPING WHOMEVER IS IN NEED...PUTTING THEIR OWN SAFETY AT RISK.....

IN THE RAIN.....

OR THE SNOW.....

EVEN HURRICANES...THEY ARE THERE...

THEY ARE THERE TO COMFORT YOU WHEN TRAGEDY STRIKES.....

THEY ARE THERE TO COMFORT A LITTLE GIRL WHO'S MOTHER WAS JUST ARRESTED FOR SELLING HERSELF ON A STREET CORNER, JUST SO SHE CAN PUT FOOD ON THE TABLE....

THEY ARE THE ONES WHO MAKE SURE YOU'RE SAFE ON YOUR WAY TO YOUR VACATION IN CANCUN .....

YET SOME OFFICERS MAKE THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE....THEY RISK IT ALL TO SAVE ANOTHER....OR A FELLOW BROTHER....

"OFFICER DOWN, OFFICER NEEDS HELP" ARE WORDS THAT CAN CHANGE LIVES FOREVER. WORDS THAT REMAIN EVER PRESENT AND IRREMOVABLE IN THE MINDS AND HEARTS OF THE POLICE FAMILY.

WE WILL FOREVER BE THANKFUL FOR ALL THEY HAVE DONE....

WE SALUTE YOU....

PLEASE HONOR OUR POLICE HEROES.....

WITHOUT THEM .... WHAT WOULD OUR COUNTRY BECOME?!?!

  WOWZERONI!

   Thank you, Judy!

From Joe Madagan ('57) of FL - 04/26/08 - "  Sertoma Sock Hop, Lakeland, Florida"

Hi, Carol:

When         Raoul Weinstein ('57) of FL threw down the challenge in your April 11, 2008 Newsletter following the announcement of the Sertoma Sock Hop to be held in Lakeland, Florida today, I had planned to just show up and surprise him, and enjoy the music and dancing. So, I did not respond, but made plans to attend.

Then earlier this week I kept my regular appointment with my dermatologist because of my youthful indiscretion of not protecting myself from the sun while working as a Life Guard at the city pool.

For fear that I would shock all of the guests thinking someone had entered the Sock Hop with some awful disease and maybe run them off, I chose instead to stay out of sight and read your Newsletter which just arrived this afternoon.

"Don't Get Around Much Anymore" is my song today!!!

TYPHOON Regards,
Joe Madagan ('57) of FL

YOWZERONI! I'm so sorry you missed the dance-reunion-fundraiser, and sorrier still for your discomfort, Adonis! We'll pray for you, your family, and a speedy healing!

From Glenn Dye ('60) of TX - 04/26/08 - "The Penny":

This one is kind of an old one but good one.  It made me feel good - especially the music.  Turn up the sound:

Thanks, Glenn! This IS a good one!

From My Niece, Shari, of VA - 04/27/08 - "A friend paased this link on & may help many":

If you know someone who has a differently-abled child, please pass on.

(Thank you, Raymond.)

Thank you, Shari! This is quite informative!

From Joyce Lawrence Cahoon ('65) of VA - 04/27/08 - "A scary story for women!":

This is old news to me, it happened little by little at night while I slept.  The last thing stolen was my knees.  The ones they replaced mine with hurt a lot.  I suggest that maybe someone stand guard while you sleep.  I think they have been stealing my brain also.  I seem to be having "senior moments" more and more often.  Age is a cruel thief...beware!!!

 Joyce Cahoon

You've heard about people who have been abducted and had their kidneys removed by black-market organ thieves. Well, this kind of cruel theft is happening with other body parts as well!

My thighs were stolen from me during the night a few years ago. I went to sleep and woke up with someone else's thighs. It was just that quick. The replacements had the texture of cooked oatmeal. Whose thighs were these and what happened to mine?  I spent the entire summer looking for my thighs. Finally, hurt and angry, I resigned myself to living out my life in jeans.   And then the thieves struck again.   My butt was next.  I knew it was the same gang, because they took pains to match my new rear end to the thighs they had stuck me with earlier. But my new butt was attached at least three inches lower than my original! I realized I'd have to give up my jeans in favor of long skirts.

Two years ago I realized my arms had been switched. One morning I was fixing my hair and was horrified to see the flesh of my upper arms swing to and fro with the motion of the hair brush. This was really getting scary - my body was being replaced one section at a time. What could they do to me next?

When my poor neck suddenly disappeared and was replaced with a turkey neck, I decided to tell my story. Women of the world, wake up and smell the coffee! Those 'plastic' surgeons are using REAL replacement body parts - stolen from you and me! The next time someone you know has something 'lifted', look again - was it lifted from you?

THIS IS NOT A HOAX. This is happening to women everywhere every night.

WARN YOUR FRIENDS!

P.S. Last year I thought someone had stolen my boobs. I was lying in bed and they were gone! But when I jumped out of bed, I was relieved to see that they had just been hiding in my armpits as I slept. Now I keep them hidden in my waist-band.

     Thanks, Joyce!

Let It Be

Music and Lyrics written by Paul McCartney (although credited to Lennon/McCartney)

(The Beatles, March 1970)

When I find myself in times of trouble
Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
And in my hour of darkness
She is standing right in front of me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
Let it be, let it be.
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be.

And when the broken hearted people
Living in the world agree,
There will be an answer, let it be.
For though they may be parted there is
Still a chance that they will see
There will be an answer, let it be.
Let it be, let it be. Yeah
There will be an answer, let it be.

And when the night is cloudy,
There is still a light that shines on me,
Shine on until tomorrow, let it be.
I wake up to the sound of music
Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
Let it be, let it be.
There will be an answer, let it be.
Let it be, let it be,
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be.
