“The walls we build around us to keep sadness out
Dear Friends and Schoolmates,
Few singers have ever equaled the soothing velvet tones of Jim Reeves insofar as "comfort sounds". I don't know about you, but I'm in the mood for some comfort right about now.

From My Friend, Alice, of NV - 04/25/13 - "Homemade Febreze":
I am definitely going to try this out.
What you'll need:
1/8 Cup of fabric softener (I used Downy April Fresh)
2 tablespoons Baking Soda
Hot tap water
Spray bottle (I used my empty 27 oz. Febreze bottle)
Using a funnel, pour fabric softener and baking soda into your spray bottle. Fill spray bottle with hot tap water and shake well. Don't forget to twist the nozzle over to the LOCK position if you're using a Febreze bottle, or you might fall on your hiney. Now go spray every fabric surface in your house and take a nap on your very comfortable and now un-stinky couch. :)
Store-bought Febreze: $5.59
Homemade Febreze: $0.15
Total Savings: $5.44 OR 97.3%!
Oh, WOW! Thank you, Alice!
From My Friend, Sherri, of UT - 04/25/13 - "Cleaning Fruit":
|BRILLIANT! Thank you, Sherri!|
From My Friend, Susan, of NC - 04/25/13 - "Parmesan Crusted Potatoes":
Parmesan Crusted Potatoes
3 small to medium baking potatoes, halved lengthwise (longer, thinner potatoes work well)
2-½ tablespoons olive oil
1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese
½ teaspoon kosher or sea salt and a few turns of the pepper mill
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
Coat the bottom of a 9×9-baking dish with the olive oil, and then evenly distribute the grated Parmesan over the olive oil. Sprinkle with the salt and pepper.
Place the potato halves, cut side down, on top of the cheese mixture and bake for 45-50 minutes or until the potatoes are very tender when pierced with the tip of a knife. Precise baking time will depend on the thickness of your potatoes.
Cool for five minutes before serving. Remove to a platter with a metal spatula, and garnish with snipped chives, if desired. Leftovers are equally delicious reheated in the oven.
Thank you, Susan!
From Me ('65) of NC - 04/25/13 - "Elvis Presley Cake":

White cake mix
8 oz. can crushed pineapple
1 cup sugar
8 oz. pkg. cream cheese
1/2 cup butter, softened
3 c. powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2-3 cups crushed pecans
Bake a white cake, cool and poke holes in it. Boil crushed pineapple with juice and 1 cup of sugar, then pour over cooled cake. In a large bowl, mix cream cheese, butter, and powdered sugar. Add vanilla and crushed pecans, mix well, and put on cake.
From My Friend, Susan, of NC - 04/25/13 - "Forgive Others":

No, I’m talking about the stack of recipes I’ve clipped together and hung on the pegboard next to my work station in the King Arthur test kitchen. These are recipes I make over and over again–for potlucks, for bake sales, or for going-away lunches here at work. Or just because, after sitting for three hours at the computer, I need to bake something..."|
A young man was walking through a supermarket to pick up a few things when he noticed an old lady following him around. Thinking nothing of it, he ignored her and continued on. Finally he went to the checkout line, but she got in front of him.
"Pardon me," she said, "I'm sorry if my staring at you has made you feel uncomfortable. It's just that you look just like my son, who just died recently."
"I'm very sorry," replied the young man, "is there anything I can do for you?"
"Yes," she said, "As I'm leaving, can you say, 'Good bye, Mother'? It would make me feel so much better."
"Sure," answered the
As he stepped up to the checkout counter, he saw that his total was $127.50. "How can that be?" he asked, "I only purchased a few things!"
"Your mother said that you would pay for her," said the clerk.
